Reviewing DVDs…

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

So, I’m sure you all remember that the DVD for season 7 was released the day after the finale aired. I went out to the store to try and buy it and apparently it had already sold out there. Still didn’t end up getting a copy, but for those who are planning on doing so I thought I’d share this review with you.

It’s a really comprehensive review that goes into sound and picture quality, among other things. There even a run down of each episode and the reviewers take on each one. The thing I thought was the most interesting about it was it was written by a new fan of the show. The writer, Chad Webb, had never seen an episode of the series before. Since I started watching with the very first episode, it was great to have a fresh perspective on it all. What’s even more interesting is the rating for each episode. He grades each on a ten point scale and, surprisingly, the white house invasion episodes have the highest scores, while the finale looks to have the lowest one.

As an added bonus, he goes into great detail about each of the extras on the DVD. There are commentaries on half of the episodes and several different features. If you wanna read the whole thing for yourself, head on over here. That’s about it for now, but before I leave, I wanna share this video review as well by Bowlestrek. Enjoy!

First Impressions…

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Hey, everyone! How’s it going? I hope everyone had a great holiday and you’re ready to get back to business like I am. Today, I have something a little different and kind of off-topic to talk about: tv show credits.

I was just reading an E!Online article discussing some of the best TV credits. One of the first ones they mentioned was 24. I gotta agree with that one fully. I love the cinematic feel of them and how they introduce characters to new viewers. I also enjoy how they manage to do this without being too cheesy with it.

Reading that, though, got me thinking some of my other favorites. Let’s start with some oldies and then move on to more recent shows, huh? First off? I love classic TV. I used to sit up in the summers when I was a kid and watch Nick at Nite almost every night. One of my favorites was the Patty Duke Show. It was about identical cousins (played by Patty Duke. Read about her if you don’t know her back story! She’s inspirational and fascinating) who are completely different, with one always getting into some crazy situation. Here’s the opening:

Another one I loved was I Love Lucy. I guess it’s nothing too special, but it just gives me a feel-good feeling: (more…)

Carlos’ New Project…

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Hey, everyone!! Once again, the weekend is here and this time it’s a big one! I wanna wish you all a happy fourth and a safe holiday weekend. Have fun and be careful out there! Be sure to come back with stories and pictures of all the fun! For now, though? We’ve got some business to deal with. Namely, talking 24. Specifically what Carlos Bernard is up to these days.

E! had a little mention of Carlos doing a web series and how it just might end up going to TV along with a link to his official site, where the videos are. I haven’t been able to see them yet (they’re in quicktime and my computer apparently doesn’t have the right version or something), but there’s two of them. They’re called Mission Road and 101 Ways to Die. The first video is four minutes and the second is 6 minutes.

The first video credits Carlos as a co-writer and co-producer. Cool, huh? Anyway… it’s about a guy who moves back to his hometown to find the man who killed his father. He ends up getting a lot more than he planned on when he does….

The second video kind of reminds me of 24 from the description. Basically, this guy who is a war veteran discovers his wife and child have been taken hostage and they will be killed if he doesn’t kill for some mysterious group. He has to carry out their orders until he’s able to figure out who this group is and where they are.

Check em out here for yourself and then come back and tell me what you thought of them. I’d love to hear about it. Take care and I’ll see y’all Monday! In the spirit of the day, I leave you with a version of Stars and Stripes Forever I found on youtube:

Preview Time….

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Looks like we’re not the only ones counting the days until new episodes of 24 come on. This website has an article by a Dale Roe who lists 24 among his favorites and one of the shows he’s most anxious to see return. I gotta say, I adore this guy. Why, you ask? Because he doesn’t like the prominence of reality shows any more than I do!

The article has a lot of the same ole stuff- he offers a little recap of what happened last season and talks briefly about the cast changes that are taking place this year. Another plus in this guy’s column? He’s as disturbed and confused about the Freddie Prinze, Jr. casting as I am. Now watch him be amazing in the part, forcing me to humiliatingly eat my words. You know it’s gonna happen!

Finally… he talks a little bit about what he would like to see on 24 next season (here’s a hint- it ain’t office intrigue). Again? I am in total agreement and about to issue a restraining order to get this guy out of my head! In all serious, it was an enjoyable read and I hope you all enjoy it too.

After you do, why not comment and let me know what you think of all this. Do you wanna see less White House intrigue? Are you annoyed about the never-ending torture debate of last season? Let’s chat about it! Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow. Enjoy this video as a parting gift… it was made by ivisfilms and is a teaser for the new season of 24:

(Even More) Casting News!

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Hello, again! How’s it going? Me, I finally got the car situation straightened out so cross your fingers it stays that way! :) So, anyway, let’s talk 24! With the new season already in production, casting announcements have been coming out on a regular basis. It seems every other day there’s a new addition. Oddly enough, today’s casting announcement has a link not only to another person on this show, but a link to Housewives as well!

The latest person to join the show is Callum Keith Rennie. If that names looks familiar, it’s most likely because of Battlestar Gallactica. Here’s where the coincidence comes in- his character (Leoben) on the show was apparently very obsessed with Katee Sackhoff’s Starbuck. I wonder if they’re going to have any scenes together? The story I found didn’t give any other details about his character, but it did say that Katee went onto Facebook to say how happy she was about the announcement. I looked for clips of the two actors together in a scene, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Still, I did find this:

It’s a fan video made by Cait8915 about the strange relationship between the two characters! Enjoy and let me (and the creator) know what you think of it.

According to some reports, you can now see the actor on the show Harper’s Island. I won’t say much more than that, because I don’t wanna spoil anyone who’s watching it. The show also features Richard Burgi, who plays Karl Mayer on Desperate Housewives. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all next time!
