24 Character Countdown (Episode 19)

by

Tom Lennox (77)
-Has decided to drink the VP’s Kool-Aid once again (-7)
-Thinks Karen is “smart and brings “balance (to the force) (+2)

Net Gain/Loss: -5
Current Total: 72

President Wayne Palmer (72)
-Is living it up in his coma (+5)

Net Gain/Loss: +5
Current Total: 77

Bill Buchanan (150)
-Pulled the recapping of his life when he recapped the entire past 5 seasons of 24 by saying “Jack Bauer’s gone rogue (+10)
-Asked Chloe to rejoin the team (+2)
-Gave Doyle a pointless recap of the ramifications if the chip were to fall into Cheng’s hands (-5)
-Is one of Jack’s “good friends. Which is funny because besides Chloe all of Jack’s other “good friends are “dead friends (+6)
-Hung up on his wife after hearing the news that he was being fired (+7)
-Put Nadia in charge of CTU. Yes, Nadia. What’s that you say? She hasn’t done a single thing this whole season? Hmmm….interesting (-5)

Net Gain/Loss: +15
Current Total: 165

Nadia Yassir (140)
-Got the promotion of a lifetime. From CTU secretary to CTU head cheese in 2 seconds flat (+5)
-The first chance she got she reminded us all how much we hate it when a new woman takes over at CTU. Remember Erin Driscoll and Alberta Green? They drove me absolutely nuts. It’s a good thing Sherry Palmer never ran CTU or I would’ve stopped watching a long time ago (-9)

Net Gain/Loss: -4
Current Total: 136

Jack Bauer (567)
-Used power lines to hide the signal of the transmitter on the chip (+3)
-Plucked the transmitter out with a knife (+2)
-Got Cheng to do what he wanted (+3)
-In a spectacular turn of events Jack brought back the man purse that he made famous last season, Hooray! (+8)
-Used a “double linked key to slow down CTU’s tracking. Who would’ve thought, seriously, a “double linked key it’s so simple yet genius (+3)
-Didn’t see Doyle drive right past the rundown building he was standing in. He didn’t even hear his car. Maybe he was too busy thinking about how smart he was when he used that “double linked key (-8)
-Confronted the very man that tortured him for the past two years (+5)
-Didn’t notice that while a limo drove up to the motel, 3 other “stealth hummers drove in the back way. Jack stop thinking about the “double linked key and get your act together man (-10)
-Got shot, but just in his vest (-5)
-Added two more people to his kill count (+6)

Net Gain/Loss: +7
Current Total: 574

Chloe O’Brian (227)
-Got into another lovers quarrel with Morris (-3)
-Continued her great one-liners by saying “Well, don’t arm nuclear bombs for terrorists, to Morris. We were all thinking the same thing, admit it (+8)

Net Gain/Loss: +5
Current Total: 232

Morris O’Brian (95)
-Continuously picks fights with Chloe. No wonder their marriage never worked out (-4)
-Got put in his place by Chloe (-6)
-Wanted and got a transfer out of Com so he wouldn’t have to pick anymore fights with his ex-wife (+2)

Net Gain/Loss: -8
Current Total: 87

Vice President Powers Boothe (-8)
-Has Tom on his side again. For him it’s a good thing (+2)
-Decided to keep Karen on staff (+3)
-Called himself a “dirty old man (+10)
-Groped his aide Lisa, ewwwwww (-11)
-Is getting played by Lisa like a fiddle at a hoe down in Georgia (-12)

Net Gain/Loss: -8
Current Total: -16

Karen Hayes (123)
-Got threatened by the Department of Justice (-4)
-Rolled over on Bill like a dog rolls over for a treat (-5)
-Actually fired her husband. That’s not going to go over well at home (-8)

Net Gain/Loss: -17
Current Total: 106

Rick “Mikey Doyle Schroder (67)
-Ran out into the middle of the freeway (+4)
-Didn’t get hit (-5)
-Said “I know what the stakes are Bill, when Bill told him about the computer chip falling into Cheng’s hands for probably the seventh time (+3)
-Found Jack with his inherently awesome tracking skills. Later on in the season we’ll learn what really happened in Denver with Doyle was that he was raised by wolves (+3)
-Sat in the bushes, watching everything happen and missed the 3 stealth black hummers pull up. Maybe Cheng and his men have powers like Hiro from Heroes, they can teleport (-10)
-Engaged Cheng’s men and screwed up the mission (-9)
-By screwing up the mission he inadvertently saved Jack’s life (+15)

Net Gain/Loss: +1
Current Total: 68

Milo (89)
-Was visibly jealous when Nadia told him that Doyle had found out that Jack was traveling on the 305. What a ninny (-5)

Net Gain/Loss: -5
Current Total: 84

Special Awards:

Most Likely to be a Bad Guy Next Season Award: Goes to Bill Buchanan. He’s been alienated by his wife and his government. He knows tons of information. Look for Bill to be on the bad side come next season, I’m calling it right now.

The Stealth Award: Goes to Cheng and his men for driving in not one, not two, but three…count them three black hummers that were used in their escape. I can’t believe Jack and Doyle didn’t ever see them.

  1. randomness Says:

I think everyone who watched last night just likes saying “3 black hummers”.

  2. cosine Says:

    Morris’ math is wrong(-6)+(-4)+2=(-8)

Sorry to troll, but I clearly like math…

Big fan! Keep up the good work.

  3. Bailey Says:

I think Jack deserved some points off for actually letting Cheng get out with the “component.”

  4. drdan Says:

Recapping until the bitter end award - Bill Buchanan, who’s last act as CTU head was to recap to Nadia what the situation was.

Also, would the administration be happy with a registered republican running CTU?

  5. Aaron Says:

@randomness: I like to say “3 black stealth hummers.”

@cosine: Thanks for finding that error. It’s all good I don’t think you’re a troll at all. I’m an English major and I suck at math even when I’m using a calculator, so thanks!

  6. Mark D Says:

kudos to cosine on the math. One quick point on Bill. How is it he’s got “a minute” to talk to Karen and get fired. Do these people not understand that we only have 5 more hours? Fire Bill after the crisis you ninnies. Or wait and see how it plays out and maybe give him a medal for Recapping. Of course we remember what a great job Bill did last season when he went “rogue”. Let’s not forget that. As for the “hummers”, I’m sure they were equipped with “low hum stealthness”. That Chinese technology is something else. And yes, in the long run Doyle saved Jack, but he does at least deserve a pop on the head for paving the way for the very thing he was there to prevent.

  7. Mark Says:

    funny stuff

  8. veilmaker Says:

Nadia wasn’t a secretary before her “promotion”; she was second-in-command to Bill, which means she’s going to screw up royally before the day is done. I’m hoping that Bill goes rogue; he was great at it last season.

Bill as next year’s villain? Hope you’re right. That would be awesome, and he’s certainly been driven to it. Then again, so has Jack.

  9. Ken Says:

Easiest guy to make friends with award: Jack Bauer, for calling Bill one of his “good friends” after having known the guy for 2 and a half days.

Worst traffic cop award: Mike Doyle. It took him about two minutes to finally flag down a car, only to have the guy inside angrily demand to see his badge.

Future best friends award: Audrey and Brady. ;)

  10. Mazman Says:

    Best Returning Prop: Jack’s manbag.

  11. Almeidaisgod Says:

Holy crap I LOVED last night’s episode! What the heck is wrong with Audrey? I love her!

  12. JoNike Says:

Oh man, I’m so happy you’ve notice the return of the bag!

  13. Scott Says:

I hope Bill isn’t a bad guy. Jack killing Bill would be Jack killing the embodiment of the perfect grandpa. I don’t think I could handle it.

  14. Carlos Says:

    Season 7 spoiler:

Bill: Jack, I finally have you in my grasp and now I will kill you… but not before I recap today’s events in excruciating detail…

Jack: No! This is worse than Chinese torture! I give up! I give up!

Bill: I woke up this morning and had a hankering for a glazed donut…

[Jack screams in the background, a broken man...]

    11:59:57…
    11:59:58…
    11:59:59…
    12:00:00.

  15. Marc Says:

@Carlos, you’ve made my morning :D that was hilarious!
and my award for the week is:
Longest Time Between Having Your Name Featured In The “Previously On 24″ Segment Of The Show Award goes to Cheng Zhi!! I think that before tonight’s episode it was sometime in late season 4 that he got his name in that segment. I, for one, am proud of him.

  16. Dammit! Says:

If Bill really is gone from CTU, he could use his recapping skills in the promos for each show. He’s a VoiceOver waiting to happen. He’s no Don LaFontaine but I’ll bet he could make a few bucks. He could be the star of “Previously On..”

  17. VanEck Says:

I think Bill will be back before the season is over.

Karen already made him step down once before (season 5), so he just ran things from his house pretty much. I am sure Chloe and jack will be calling him up for some help, once Nadia proves to be incompetent.

Bill has been the most competent, straight shooting, intelligent head of CTU so far… no way will he turn into a villian.

  18. Jose Alvear Says:

I forgot when Bill was rougue in a prior season. What I really liked was seeing Bill not wearing a suit. It really looked good to see him casual.

I too love that Jack found his man-purse again. How did he find that? I can’t wait to buy my very own Jack Bauer man-purse, sold by Fox.

Also, I was devastated when the Chinese Hummer dudes shot down that helicopter with a well-placed rocket. How could they! And they didn’t even show the helicopter crash–guess the budget was too low.

Speaking of Denver…. will we ever learn what happened in Denver? I need closure!

  19. Brett Says:

Did any one think Jack should have thrown Cheng the wrong circuit board. Like one from a microwave or sumthing. haha

  20. Aaron Says:

    @Brett,
You’re totally right. All through 24 terrorists always take time to check out the whatever they’re trying to get. Remember the virus and Nina they went through that whole confirmation process. Jack could’ve thrown Cheng a chicklet and Cheng wouldn’t have had time to respond.

But, I guess we wouldn’t have 5 more episodes if that would’ve happened.

  21. Brett Says:

Also I really enjoyed Doyle’s Grand Theft Auto move when he pulled that guy out of the car. I think i saw doyle throw up an obscene gesture too!

  22. Almeidaisgod Says:

    @carlos,
that was awesome! lol! amazing name, btw. Carlos Bernard (tony of course) is the best character to ever be on 24, except 4 michelle that is! :)

  23. Lucas Says:

Crazy Schizo Moment goes to Audrey for her great acting skills. I honestly felt like there was something crawling over her. Boy, did she get jacked up in China!

  24. Tom Says:

    Okay, Almeida…Here’s my prediction…
I’ve always been a fan of Tony (almost as much as Jack), and I’m still part of the group that believes that Tony is alive…we’re gonna see him come back as the new head of CTU…we’re gonna see someone carrying in a box, and on top of it is gonna be that beautiful Chicago Cubs mug (yes, I’m a Cubs fan, just like Carlos). I don’t have any other major predictions other than that, though…

  25. Mark D Says:

Is it possible that Jack, after being in a Chinese prison for 18 months still knew the location of an abandoned house where he could meet Cheng? He’s got some kind of realtor. And yes, it would have made more sense for him to have thrown a dummy “component” to Cheng set to explode in Cheng’s face in a few minutes. Say, after he had escaped in a stealth hummer.
Maybe we’ll find out what they gave up to the Chinese to get Jack back at the beginning of the season in the next few episodes or am I the only one who still wonders?

  26. Tom Says:

I’m sitting here wondering if the pilot of the chopper that got shot down is the same one as earlier in the season that landed on the semis…if so, I say he loses all the points he gained for that landing (if not more).

  27. Almeidaisgod Says:

ok Aaron u r so right I am convinced he is alive and I too LOVE the Cubs Mug!!

  28. Almeidaisgod Says:

Tom* not aaron. Tom, look up ‘Tony Almeida’ on wikipedia.org and under “rumors and speculations” there is lots of good evidence that our beloved Tony is alive. It wouldn’t be as amazing if Michelle wasn’t, but I would probably yodel in the street if he was. :) lol

  29. Almeidaisgod Says:

    Mike Doyle- Saying Asap- (-50).

  30. Morris (my shoulder still hurts) O’Brian Says:

    Addition to Almeidaisgod’s “Asap” comment.
Mike Doyle-Nearly wetting himself in the bushes while begging for some support from CTU (and he wasn’t even talking to the Vice-President). Curtis would’ve never done that. (-68)
Don’t know how that’ll endear him to Nadia, but Milo might identify with his “I want my mommy” tone.

  31. Morris (my shoulder still hurts) O’Brian Says:

“Damn! I should’ve done that AWARD” - Comatose Wayne Palmer when hearing White House Press Secretary Ellen Price say that after her statement about the condition of the president, she won’t take questions.

  32. Almeidaisgod Says:

    Aaron,
What is your email? I have the funniest picture I found online. Better yet, here is the link!

    file:///Users/Kayla/Desktop/caption-nadia1win.jpg

It is Milo and Nadia, and Nadia is saying “CTU really isn’t the best place to start a relationship. and Milo says “Does this mean I should put my pants back on?”
lol it’s so funny! If you can’t access it, Ill email it or something.

  33. Aaron Says:

    Almeidaisgod:
Hey if you click on the “Contact Me” link at the bottom of the “About Watching 24″ section you can send it to me.

    Aaron.

  34. Almeidaisgod Says:

Woot Woot 24’s on in 3 hours and 43 minutes!!! Yay!! OMG they better show us what’s wrong with Audrey! So excited I might have a stroke. :P
…*praying Tony will be in this episode, even as a villan who has made the decision that CTU is responsibe for the death of his beloved Michelle*

  35. Almeidaisgod Says:

    yay 24’s on!! hooray!

  36. Tom Says:

Jeez, Almeida, you seem to like the show almost as much as I do :P

  37. Almeidaisgod Says:

lol yeah u could say I am obsessed… my teachers at school have made a “no 24 papers” rule due to the hundreds of reports I have done on it lol
