by Aaron

Welcome to the 5th edition of the 24 Character Countdown. For those of you that are new that are new to the Countdown check out editions 1, 2, 3, & 4 to get the rundown of what goes on here.

Tom Lennox (91)
-Acted like 12,000 people killed wasn’t a big number at all (-8)
-Put the Admiral in his place for interrupting the President (+5)
-Didn’t want to hide the fact that a nuke just went off on American soil, to the American people (+10)
-Did however want to use the nuke to springboard his own agenda of rounding up all the Muslims and putting them in detention camps (-12)

Net Gain/Loss: -5
Current Total: 86

President Wayne Palmer (24)
-Every line of dialogue consists of almost all whispers (-10)
-Seemed like a boy amongst men in the Joint Chiefs meeting (-5)
-Chose not to preemptively go to war (+15)
-Wanting to calm the American people with his message instead of incite their fears (+10)
-Probably ended up calming the American people too much (put them to sleep) with his ever-whispering voice (-11)

Net Gain/Loss: -1
Current Total: 23

Bill Buchanan (115)
-Didn’t shake Assad’s hand (-4)
-Did, however, shake Assad’s hand after Assad proved that he is a nice terrorist (+7)

Net Gain/Loss: +3
Current Total: 118

Nadia Yassir (127)
-Seemingly just wanders around CTU doing the occasional thing when it requires her to speak Arabic (+1)
-Is still too cute to take off the Countdown list (+8)

Net Gain/Loss: +9
Current Total: 136

Jack Bauer (252)
-Showed his MacGyver skills by making a TV antenna into the Jaws of Life (+13)
-Saved a man from a helicopter dangling off a roof (+7)
-Did what we all knew he’d do. Quickly rescinded his resignation and got back into the game (+5)
-Suspicious of Graham from the start, he knows the guy is bad news (+8)
-Was with Graham’s wife in the past, Jack sure gets around doesn’t he (+10)
-Knocked Graham out the first chance he got (+6)
-Tied him to a chair (+2)
-Invented new Bauer torture technique, the menacing plastic bag over the head (+8)

-Found Jack’s Dad on the list (+5)

Net Gain/Loss: +12
Current Total: 103

Sandra Palmer: (0)
NOTE: She started out with 0 points because she reminds me of Sherry Palmer the most evil woman to walk the 24 planet.
-Continues to throw temper tantrums (-15)
-Uses people like Sherry Palmer did, just because she has a relationship with the President (-10)

Net Gain/Loss:-25
Current Total:-25

Assad: (100)
-Wanted to shake Bill’s hand, sure he’s cut off head’s of soldiers in the past, but he’s a good guy now (+7)
-Gave the name of a Russian General (+10)
-Actually tried to obtain nukes in the past (-20)

Nadia Yassir—136
Chloe O’Brian—125
Bill Buchanan—118
Morris O’Brian—103
Assad—97
Karen Hayes—90
Tom Lennox—86
President Wayne Palmer—23
Sandra Palmer – (-25)

Biggest Winner: Jack Bauer (+59)
Biggest Loser: Sandra Palmer (-25)

Individual Awards:
Quite Possibly the Best FBI Agent in a TV Show Award–goes to the FBI Agent that shows absolutely no emotion, but you can tell he enjoys putting Sandra Palmer in her place.

Most Dysfunctional Family Award–goes to Jack for having a brother who’s a terrorist mastermind, and a father that just might be as well.

Most Helpful Person Not Included in the Countdown Award–goes to Walid, who suffered himself to be beat up by two FBI agents in order to be wired up so he can hear what’s going on inside his detention facility. Because of him we know there’s four nukes out there. Way to go Walid!

  1. Loren Says:

Walid deserves every honorable mention out there. He’s the man.

And if Nadia doesn’t start doing something besides interpreting Arabic, I think she should be taken off. Being ridiculously good looking can only get you so far.

  2. matt jackman Says:

First off i think Nadia should get ten points for every episode that she’s in. but besides that i would agree and love that jack is already over three hundred points.

  3. charles Says:

So is it totally obvious to everyone that Tom Lennox (Peter MacNicol) is going to be a villain eventually? — my guess he will be the third (or maybe fourth)
I have no inside information at all just a feeling.

  4. jojo Says:

Best FBI Agent in a TV Show is the pony tailed “evolution of the market economy in the southern colonies” guy from Good Will Hunting.

  5. TedInAK Says:

I want to start by saying that your countdown’s are enjoyable, entertaining, and oft-times humorous insights into the most awesome show to ever exist.

While Sandra is annoying in her civil-rights single-mindedness, I think comparing her to Sherry is like comparing Gilbert Gottfried to Adolf Hitler.

I also strongly suggest you put Walid in your countdown, with a starting bonus of at least 50 points for his (and this is a prediction) ongoing, extremely important role as undercover Islamist radical (plus maybe a few extra for being eminently more likable than his role as Commander Lock in the Matrix sequels).

And in the “last but not least” department, you should deduct 5 from Wayne Palmer for every episode in which he is the president because he is soooo un-presidential. To paraphrase a certain Senator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senator,_you_are_no_Jack_Kennedy), “Mr. President, I watched David Palmer, I respected David Palmer, David Palmer was very Presidential. Mr. President, you’re no David Palmer!”

  6. TedInAK Says:

P.S. - Vote Haysbert in ‘08! See http://campaignwindow.com/haysbert08 (Disclaimer: I have no affiliation or connection w/ this site in any way…I found it 5 minutes ago).

  7. anon Says:

    insight:
    1. an instance of apprehending the true nature of a thing, esp. through intuitive understanding: an insight into 18th-century life.
    2. penetrating mental vision or discernment; faculty of seeing into inner character or underlying truth.

    incite:
to stir, encourage, or urge on; stimulate or prompt to action: to incite a crowd to riot.

  8. S.a.m. Says:

    Loren,
“You mean there’s more to life than being really really ridiculously good looking?”

And I think it’s almost unfair to have Jack in the countdown because he will finish with Eleventy Billion points!! haha, go Jack!

  12. Willy Says:

Congratulations on a terrific idea. Are there countdowns for the previous seasons somewhere?

I’d suggesting adding Assad to the list. Maybe start him off with a big deduction for past history. They’re taking him to DC, which is cool. He should be pretty comfortable in The Bunker, as it appears to have a fairly similar set design to Deep Space 9.

Also, I say keep Nadia on the list. Being ridiculously good looking will only get a person so far, it’s true, but she’s got a ways to go yet, IMHO.

    /w

  13. Willy Says:

Isn’t Walid the scientist/business guy that invented SkyNet in the Terminator movies, and then fought back against them in the last Matrix movie?

    /w

  14. Aaron Says:

    Willy,
Thanks for your interest in the Countdown. This is the first year I’ve done this so there’s no past seasons for the Countdown, I’m sorry.

Also, Assad was on this one, at the very bottom I just don’t have a picture for him yet. But, he did get minus 20 for trying to obtain nukes in the past.

    Aaron.

  15. Bladzalot Says:

Do not forget to dock the President 10 points every episode cause I have to turn the TV up so damn loud just to hear what he is saying. Then we cut to commercial and I wake the kids cause the commercials are +140 db over Wayne Palmers voice.

  16. Willy Says:

Oh hey… how did I miss that? BTW, I did some googly-googling on Marisol Nichols (the actress playing Nadia)… She’s a Scientologist. Yikes!

  17. Willy Says:

Oh… I was wrong about Walid, too. Matrix Revolutions, Yes. Terminator II, No.

  18. alu Says:

+50 for Bauer for knocking up his brother’s girl, because sure as shit that’s his son he just met!

  19. Aaron Says:

After reading everyone’s comments I’m also inclined to think that Graham’s son is really Jack’s son.

    Aaron.

  20. Aaron Says:

    Willy,
Just to let you know the guy in Terminator was Joe Morton. IMDB him. I can see how you could get him and the guy who plays Walid mixed up.

    Aaron.

  21. Fiddle Says:

LoL i missed the episode but watched it after i read this and i was only laughing as each event occured and thought of ur comments
    nice job

  22. Willy Says:

Bluetooth’s son is Jack’s? Compelling theory. Little guy does kinda look like Kim, doesn’t he? Wonder if he wanders into the cougar-infested woods with flank-steak in his pockets, too? “Ow, my leg!” Does this mean Jack is going to be put in the position of having to kill the kid?

    /w

  23. Aaron Says:

    Fiddle,
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy the Countdown. Although I wouldn’t reccomend reading it before you watch the episode…whatever works for you lol! I’m glad it made you laugh during the episode.
    Thanks.

    Willy,
You bring up an interesting theory. Along with the theory of Jack having to kill Graham’s son, I can see Graham taking his own son hostage after Jack finds out it is his.

    Aaron.

  24. Willy Says:

He’s got a long history of torturing and/or killing friends and family…

    /w

  25. Willy Says:

Oh. Fox.com is spelling it “Graem”, not “Graham”.

  26. Aaron Says:

We’ll have to change it then.

    Aaron.
