24 Episode 11–4:00p.m.-5:00p.m.

by

One question…where was Jack? I think he spent the entire episode putting on a suit to look like a member of Charles Logan’s detail, in order to go interrogate the Russian Consulate.

Sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself, I was just a bit mad that we hardly saw Jack at all this episode.

So, this is the first time I noticed that gigantic bruise on the back of Morris’ head. I’m surprised, that after that beating he took that’s about all he does have. Man, usually when people take beatings from baseball bats and drills they’re in the hospital for a week or so.

But, Morris did show us all, that he is kicking the drink, at least for now. He poured down the rest of his liquor, and I bet he was wishing that he would’ve kept his Red Bull.

Chloe spent the entire episode covering for Morris. To tell you the truth, it was getting a bit tiresome. But, I think Morris can do his job, and he’ll do it well. I mean he armed a bunch of nuclear bombs after he’d been drilled in the arm and beaten with a bat, so working at CTU under “pressure should be a walk in the park for him right?

The biggest surprise of the episode to me was the fact that Charles Logan doesn’t want anything in return for helping Jack find Gredenko. I was sure he was trying to broker some kind of deal. But, I guess the deal he has now is pretty cushy. He just sits at his ranch, with Secret Service personnel, and none of the American people know anything about what he did.

But, apparently Logan knows how to find Gredenko, and he needs to go talk to the Russian Consulate to find out that information. He’s also become a man of faith, reciting and highlighting scriptures, that was a bit weird.

So, what in the world was that thing that Gredenko got delivered to him? The only things that I heard that were used to describe it were that it was paid for by the American taxpayers, and “drone. What could it be? And how could it be any worse than nuclear weapons?

Reed actually went through with it. I thought he was going to get cold feet about doing it. I thought that at the last second he wasn’t going to do it, but he did. He detonated a bomb that blew up Assad, and President Wayne. We don’t know yet if both men are dead or alive. I think Assad is a goner, personally and that President Wayne will live, meaning we’ll be seeing a lot more of Sandra Palmer. Those are my guesses anyway. I was also happy to find out I was right, at least according to Tom. Tom told Reed that he was against him from the beginning, which was nice to hear, although Tom went about a really horrible way to make it known that the President’s life was in danger.

But, man Jack really wasn’t in this episode at all. He was in the first few minutes and the last few minutes and that was it. His kill count is going to go nowhere at this pace.

That drone thing is kinda like a missile, in that it can deliver the nuke over a distance. But it’s a little closer to an unmanned plane.

You summed it up really well, Aaron. I tried to but I’m no wordsmith like you. But I *do* know where Jack was. [don't tell anybody, but he was hanging out with Rocco in his trailer and didn't hear his cue ;] But you know, man, I wasn’t aware that Jack was missing in action. I mean the show was over in the time it takes to flip a pancake and I’m really spoiled by the 2-hour shows.

Aaron, in last week’s episode, Morris looked really rough, all over, with a huge bruise on his shoulder (right, I think) and several marks on his head; although the mark on the back of his head in tonight’s episode looked like it was painted on by my 3 year old chihuahua. It looked stage-fake. And he’s still showing the stress and marks on his face. I really want to like this guy, so I’m glad he ditched the liquor into the sink. I think he can do his job, too. He really came though his trauma rather well. If it had been me, no way I’m back on the job as soon as I’m rescued; I would have been carried out in a basket wrapped in a strait-jacket. Babbling, probably. I didn’t look when he got it with the drill. So he got it in the arm? Must be the show’s first blooper because I don’t think you could continue to type away on a keyboard after having your arm ’s tendons, ligaments, arteries, etc. wrapped around a drill bit…but hey, anything’s possible I guess. [Really. I know someone who shot himself in the palm of his hand while cleaning a 45 and didn't break any bones, didn't sever any main muscles, tendon, arteries, and the 70+ stitches to close the hole up left hardly a visible scar. So, okay, I take it back. It might to possible to type after being drilled in the arm..hmm -oo- ]

I have to agree it’s a stretch that Logan didn’t want anything in return for helping Jack find Gredenko; he probably wants to achieve redemption to win back Martha, assuming she’s out of the picture for now. I’m reserving judgment about Logan’s sincerity since I won’t soon forget how evil he looked in his last episodes. Something about them evil eyes.

I think Gredenko had a drone delivered to him that will be equipped with a nuke and flown into a nuke stockple, White House or some other highly guarded target making it look like it was done by Russia, of course. Afterall, maybe the series is meant to parallel some sabre-rattler’s playbook in realtime. What do you think?

I was also surprised that Reid (sp?) went through with the assassination attempt. It looked at one point like he was going to change his mind. But he actually is the skuzzball I thought he was from the beginning.

I’m hoping Palmer is alive and you think Assad and everyone around him was killed, too? Pity. I thought Assad had potential for the show. Plus, he had nice curly hair.

Now, Jack better put in some more serious kill time between now and the end of this season. As it stands now - I’ve got him on over-kill mode - sort of like the Terminator on steroids. heh heh

  4. Tom Says:

I agree with you completely, there was so little of Jack in there, kinda disappointing. I was expecting more…well…fighting between him and Logan. I can’t believe Logan found God, though…I laughed a little bit. I’ve been doing some research on the highlighted text in the Bible that Logan quoted while in the bathroom. It’s Psalm 40:2, part of A Song of Resurrection. And it goes as such:

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.”

Now…I may be reading a bit too much into this (heck, I’m about 99% sure I am), but I have a feeling this Psalm may come back into play either visually some way or just repeated, on the episode that will air on Monday, April 2nd (402)…either that, or Logan’s going to die in that episode…heh

Logan’s obviously trying to redeem himself in some way. Though those who watch the show with me (as well as myself) believe he’s still got a few things he wants to…err…”take care” of…Martha, specifically.

Nadia had a big part again…that made me happy…I just wanna know where Milo was…I don’t remember them sending him home last week…so where was he?

Assad is dead, Palmer will live, and Sandra will probably be back (I guess there needs to be at least one character with less than 0 points in the Countdown…)

Sorry about the long comment…I’ll try to refrain from ones this long in the future (unless you like this one and want me to continue…)

  5. Jeni Says:

I disagree. For all his bible quotein’, I am sure Logan is going to turn out bad. I believe so from the key comment from Buchanan that they didn’t have jurisdiction at the Russian consulate. So once Logan is there, if he, say, flies out-he’s a goner.

    I’m just sayin’

  6. poeticjustice Says:

Ah ha! An astute observation by you, Jeni, regarding the CTU not having jurisdiction at the Russian consulate. Good catch! Intuitively, I think you’re spot-on about Logan possibly taking the opportunity to flee once he gets there, and about Logan’s seemingly unredeemable character.

  7. Marcus Owens Says:

That “drone” was pretty much an exact replica of an MQ-1 Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Nevermind that the heaviest weapon that can carry is a light hellfire missile, the concept is interesting.

I’m going to go ahead and nominate that “drone” to be the single item in this season with the most egregiously inaccurate characteristics. You just wait and see…

  8. Tom Says:

That is true…a good possibility, actually. He could see Russia (or anywhere else, for that matter) as the “firm place to stand” compared to where he is now in the US. Who needs redemption when you can just hide somewhere where the people won’t really care what you did?

  9. the other aaron Says:

I think Logan is still bad and we just don’t know his whole agenda yet. Good theory about him using Russia to escape. I thought the episode was a bit slow. Yeah it showed alot about the whole plan of Gredenko and such, but so much talking. And so little action. I think Palmer is still alive but incapacitated and so the Vice President will still have to step in but it still wasn’t pinned on Assad so it will probably fall back on Reed.

  10. Ben Says:

My guess is that they’re going to use the drones to fly the nukes above high-priority targets. Remember in a previous season, when they were trying to nuke LA, they mentioned that the largest killzone can be created by detonating a nuke above ground level, because it yields the largest blast radius.

From the preview they showed of next week’s episode, it seems that they’ve already answered a few questions we had about President Palmer, possibly Charles Logan, etc. I really hope they do the 2 hour thing again soon! I don’t feel like enough can be accomplished in 1 hour..

  11. e.p. Says:

The thing Gredenko got was a UAV … an unmanned plane. Wonder what they are going to hit. And I wonder what Logan is up to. I think he is still pining over his wife but part of me wonders if he is going to seek political assylum at the russian embassy… (seeing as he didn’t want anything of Jack or the US gov’t)

  12. matt jackman Says:

i have to say i feel like this season isn’t focusing on jack as much as i’d hoped. exspecailly with him coming back from the chinese prison. he just doesn’t see to be as involved in everything. i feel like i’ve seen a lot more of morris, or tom. it seems like he’s a side plot and not the main charecter.

  13. Kristin Says:

I heard a World Affairs Council lecture that said we shouldn’t discount Russia. That was right-on. And the people who say “24″ encourages US “brutality” have ignored the reports that Gitmo detainees are getting Baklava and the Koran in protective cases, according to author Mark Steyn. Plus, we get Sandra Palmer as a balance.

I hope Assad isn’t a goner. Although he hasn’t gotten much screen time, he’s a dramatic lightning rod, and I would like to see him work with Jack again. Actor Alexander Siddig does an excellent understated job, not confusing intensity with volume. And yes, the curly hair is a good look for him. Interesingly enough, the Syrian President’s name is Bashar Assad, combining both Siddig’s present role and his non-stereotypical role on “Star Trek:DS9.”

  14. Aaron Says:

    Tom,
Feel free to make your comments as long as you want, it’s all good. I really like reading them.

It makes me feel like you guys actually read and then respond to my reviews. That’s what you like as a writer.

Thanks Tom, and keep the long comments coming.

    Aaron.

  15. Eric Says:

You were correct about Tom Lennox, and I was wrong. Nice. :)

  16. S.a.m. Says:

man this episode was so boring!

  17. Nightfall Says:

I think the problem about this non Jack-centric episode has to do more with the audience than the show itself. Over the past 5 “days”, we’ve seen a lot of Jack Bauer and a lot of action sequences, which may not always be a good thing. From a storytelling standpoint, the audience needs to have some quiet episodes to able to advance the plot. Otherwise the show may become too Die Hard-like.
I hope we don’t see too much of the Palmer sister, so far she seems have a season 3 Kim quality of annoyance.

  18. nicole Says:

We may not have seen much of Jack, but damn did he look hot in that suit at the end!
