24 Episode 12–5:00p.m.-6:00p.m.
Wasn’t this episode just what this season needed?
After a few lackluster, tired episodes, this one really got this season back on track. Jack is back, and was in this episode enough to make it exciting. Charles Logan is doing a great job at actually helping and not being offended by everyone in the world not trusting him. Powers Boothe is doing a fine job scaring the pee out of me, and Morris is doing things with computers that have never been done before, oh yeah 24 is back.
The first thing that really blew me away was how fast Tom Lennox gave up Reed and his henchman. I gained a new found respect for Tom at that moment. Although he was an idiot by not reporting the entire thing sooner, but he still did the right thing and he’ll sure earn a lot of points on the Character Countdown for that one.
Doesn’t Jack ever learn? Foreign consulates are like Jack Bauer’s kryptonite. We all know what happened to him when he stormed into the Chinese consulate, and now Jack’s tied to a chair in the Russian consulate. He got the information he needed but for some reason let down his guard and was so easily caught it made him look like an amateur. He did end up convincing one Russian man inside the consulate to help him out, but as we all saw that man got a bullet in the head by a shadowy figure, wouldn’t have been great if it was Jack’s Dad (I know it was just some other Russian crony but still wouldn’t that have been a great twist?)
Just for further notice I will not refer to the Vice President as Noah. To me, that name just doesn’t convey the utter scariness that is Powers Boothe. I know I say that over and over, but it’s true, especially in this episode. He’s finally getting some scenes that are longer than one minute at a time, and he’s making good use of them. He has added much needed acting ability to this season’s cast.
So, we have two hours before Gredenko releases the drones of death, and Jack is still tied to a chair. His Russian friend is lying in a pool of his own blood and there seems to be no hope for Jack. Bill is putting together a task force which may or may not take the consulate by force. It’s all up in the air now, which is the way 24 should be. Maybe Jack can perform another vampire escape.
Like I mentioned above, there was just one thing that really bothered me about this episode. Jack Bauer, special agent extraordinaire, gets all the information he needs, but doesn’t realize that after he steps away from the consulate that they are going to come in after him? He didn’t even get to put up a fight at all. It was almost as if he thought he’d walk out the front door, I have no idea what he was thinking. The Jack Bauer I know would’ve picked up the consulate and drug him outside the door with a gun to his head the entire way until he was back on American soil. Tell me what’s wrong with that plan?
All in all this was one of the stronger episodes of this season, and has set a new tone for the rest of it. I can’t wait to see what happens next…
24, Season 6, Episode 12, Jack Bauer, Kiefer Sutherland, Review

I agree, fantastic episode. I especially loved Cyrillic ASCII code, the removal of Russian fingers, and how Chloe breaks protocol for Jack at the drop of a hat, nowadays.

I was under the impression that Karen was supposed to get military transport to L.A. Assad made it from L.A. to D.C. in 3 hours flat, and Karen’s still in the airport!
Otherwise, this episode was pretty darn good, what with the VP getting some camera time and Jack getting some action.
I thought Logan was supposed to be placed under house arrest immediately, but the preview made it look like he’s going to find time to drop by the Pierces’ place for a chat.
A pity about Assad. He was the best new character, and now he’s gone.
Philip Bauer needs to show up again soon. It’s clear he escaped the perimeter CTU set up around the hotel, but it doesn’t make sense for him to remain hidden this long.
And with the main threat set to go down within 2 hours, I have yet to see what could possibly occupy the last 10 of the season.

Is it a coincidence the first episode without Wayne Palmer was the most exciting one in weeks?
March 6th, 2007 at 7:52 am
Just be happy Sandra Palmer hasn’t returned yet. And was that Rick Schroder leading the task force?

Good point Edmundo about Chloe not even blinking about breaking protocol for Jack. It does suck that Assad died, he was pretty cool. I loved how Jack was quick to toss out that Russian to get past the guard. Sucks he dropped his guard and got caught. Sprint sure got nice advertising time with Karen watching TV on her phone.

Thanks, other aaron. Didn’t Lennox watch TV on his phone earlier in the day? Or was that someone else in Season 5?

The veep has got to give the ‘ol POTUS some whispering lessons. Powers Boothe threatening Lennox? Now THAT’S how you whisper.
And another Canadian actor! Powers Boothe’s assistant (Lisa?) is yet another Canadian actress on 24 that you see here all the time. I can’t remember her name, but I do remember she played the owner of the Hamilton Steelheads hockey team in that ill-fated comedy Power Play… Looks like good ‘ol Kiefer is looking out for his peeps…

HAHAHA call the phone number that Jack gave for CTU 310-597-3781, its in Spanish but is says “Nextel phone for 24″ I am amazed that they gave an actual number

THANK YOU MARC for mentioning how looooooong it’s taking Karen Hayes to get back to CTU! She did say military transport was taking her there.
I just got finished re-watching the Day 5 DVDs and while I was watching the new episode last night, all I could feel was seething hatred for Logan during this episode. I’ve lost all hope that he has reformed. He still has the “Evil Logan” eyes.
And I seriously wanted Jack to sucker punch him in the limo during his “I know loneliness” speech. Shut up Cowboy Logan - Jack was freaking TORTURED in a Chinese prison for over a year!

I would like to see more of JB in the next episode, yesterday’s (5/6) was OK, but there needs to be much more Jack.
Meanwhile, the Submastermind/Evil McNasty Fayed has got his drone, you just know this drone will be launched with a suitcase-nuke on it, (they’ll probably strap a saddlebag on it) and will float through some hyper-tense episodes and perhaps blow away some little hick town (just like two years ago when the terrorists fired the World’s Slowest Missile –a JetBlue missile –which took 100 hours to get from Iowa to Los Angeles) . . . should I go on?
I still see no sign of the the president’s sister and Walid subplot, which is fine with meeeeee.
Is Tom a real “good guy” or is he acting again for us to like him?
(I think he still a snake in the grass!)
Once again (YEAH!) its Jack and Chloe, “Chloe, it’ll have to be under the radar.”
Talk about what is the eeriest guy in the episode, the VP, right? He doesn’t give a crap about anybody.
Jack handled himself better than 007, and then at the last moment when the Ruskies are about to break the door down Jack does NOT even put up a fight????!!!! Common!!! . . . . he should have held his pistol to the consulate’s head and walked out the front door, man!!!! . . . I guess he didn’t learn his leasson from the Chinese Embassy. Oh, and “Bill, we have a situation!”
. . . “Jack, you’re obn your own!”
SO the Vice Presi is the real Mafia Leader.
I don’t know about you guys, but, if they cut off my finger I’d be yelling my head off and wouldn’t punch Jack in the stomach, I ‘d be yelling CUT OFF his freaking finger!!!!! . . . maybe that’s why I don’t have a diplomatic job?
Morris after the 1/2″ hole in his back, beaten with a 2×4, 1/2 pint of booze, is the new computer savior, only HE could do it …. I thought he was out of it, he must’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel?
Finally a little excitement ….. Jack is strapped to a chair …. the VP is in charge of the USA (he hates all ARABS) …. drones are going to be floating to allllll vulnerable towns that have less than 12,000 people, of course …. Take it away …. ” and here’s Johnny!!”
SO we have more of Logan and his wife next week, divorced, separated, or whatever . . . .
Jack Bauer has to wack more people in the next episode, his body count is going way down!!!

The VP’s actions towards Tom were quite interesting. He wants to keep Tom out of the way as much as possible. Remember when Tom asked if the VP knew of the assassination plot? Reed said “The VP knows of the plan.” Since Tom survived and seems to be talking to the Secret Service, it is only a matter of time before the VP is implicated, I think.

This episode was better than it’s last few predecessors, but I still couldn’t really get into it. All I was thinking was “haven’t we seen this before??” Jack storming a consulate…. check. Jack having Chloe do something funky on her computer and telling her to keep it under the ‘radar’… check. Jack digging himself into a huge hole… check. Corruption in the white house… check. Nadia looks hot… check. I need something NEW. Granted, Jack slicing the russian’s finger off with a cigar cutter was pretty rad. Good for you, Jack. I just need a little more. This is my first ever time watching a current season of 24, so maybe it’s just this “one hour a week” thing that’s preventing me from getting into it like I normally do. I guess we’ll see…
