Getting Ready…

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend and you’re ready for another week of talking about 24. I’m gonna try and get some more fun features going at some point this week or next, but for now I thought I’d mention a little something that’s been talked about a lot lately.

Not long ago a law was passed requiring stations to switch to digital signals instead of the analog signals we use now. This will pretty much make any TV that does not have digital cable or satellite TV about as useful as a CTU perimeter. The deadline for the switch was set for February 17th and people without the digital cable and satellite services have been told to go to their local retailers and get special receivers to get the new signals. Like the whole Y2K mess, people have been rushing around trying to get themselves set up before the deadline.

If you’re one of them, you just might have lucked out. I found an article on Yahoo!News saying that the White House is expecting the House to pass a bill that would change the deadline to June 12th to give everyone an opportunity to get ready. It’s not set in stone yet, so I would go ahead and see about getting those receivers if your TV will need one. If you want more information on the switch (including how to get discounts on a receiver), check out the official site. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see you next time. I leave you with a clip of The Office that was made 24-style. It’s pretty amusing… check it out, courtesy of buttercups66:

Movie Talk

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Happy Friday, everyone!! Are you all ready for the weekend? I know I am! Before it comes, though, I have something to share with you guys that I found on yahoo!news. If you’re a big fan of the show, I’m sure you’ve all heard the talk about a big-screen version of 24. It’s actually been floating around for years now. The only thing standing in the way is the fact Executive Producer Howard Gordon doesn’t want to make it until after the show is over. He thinks they can’t really exist side-by-side and I tend to agree.

Well, he and Kiefer recently spoke to the press about the movie and have said it’s still going to happen. They just don’t know exactly when because they’re taking the show day-by-day. Gordon did mention, though, that he and Kiefer have been playing with the idea of ending the series at the end of the eighth season. Which means that the show could potentially have only one more year left in it. Whenever the show does eventually end, as all do, Gordon says there’s a real possibility that the movie could send the show off with a bang- literally. If you wanna read more and see what he means, head on over here. There’s also a very cool quote about Jack and being a human being from Kiefer in the article.

Well, I guess that’s about it for today. Since the new episode is only a few days away, I wanna leave you with two promos for the new episode, courtesy of Jonas Hodges on youtube. Enjoy and don’t forget to check back on Sunday for the Character Countdown!

News De-Briefing

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Good morning, everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend and you’re ready more for 24 talk. I know I am! So, let’s talk ratings. I was reading that 24: Redemption did pretty well in that department. They scored 12.04 million viewers and got pretty good rankings with adults 18-34, an advertisers dream viewers. Things are definitely looking up for the show’s up coming season. The show’s ratings beat the Simpsons and Family Guy (who was in that time slot a year ago) by over 3 million viewers.

Found some scoop that was apparently posted on the FOX board. The one interview I discussed gave the impression that the series was done filming for the year. That’s not the case. According to that post, as of December 12, there are six days left of filming on the show. They’ll still be done completely before a single episode even airs and this season will not in any way be affected should the actors decide to strike. I love that, because I felt Housewives was getting really good last year before the writer’s strike happened and led to a shortened season.

Here’s some more good news for the show. While it looks like they didn’t get any other nods, 24 wasn’t totally shut out of the Golden Globes. Kiefer has received a best actor nomination for his work in Redemption. Congratulations to him! He’s up against Ralph Fiennes (Bernard and Doris), Paul Giamatti (John Adams), Kevin Spacey (Recount) and Tom Wilkinson (Recount). I’ll keep you updated as an airing date and all is announced so you can see for yourself if Kiefer wins. Well, that’s it for now. I leave you with a picture of Mary Lynn Rajskub at the Milkshop.com Winter Wonderland on December 6th. Take care and I’ll see you all tomorrow with more!

Hello Everyone!!

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

I thought I’d use my first post here to introduce myself. My name’s Jamie and I write the Desperate Housewives blog here. Recently, I was given the chance to write this blog as well and just got the info to log in a little bit ago. I’m so excited to get started, as this is one of my favorite shows (besides Housewives, of course!) If you wanna know more, be sure to check out my profile.

I started watching 24 the night it premiered and have stuck with it through all the highs and lows the show has had over the years… especially in the past year or so. The show has had it rough, especially this season, which was supposed to happen last year. Then the writer’s strike happened, Keifer had his issues and there have been a few delays for script changes. Lucky for us fans, though, the season is finally about to premiere! January 11 is the date to remember if you want to catch the beginning of the season.

Stay tuned for spoilers, youtube clips, promos, actor/character profiles, a recap of the movie and more over the coming weeks and months. And while your here, why don’t you introduce yourself and let’s get to know eachother? I’ll start things off with a couple questions for you: what do you all think has been the best season of 24 so far? What’s been the worst? If you could bring back one character, who would it be? I’d love to hear your opinions and I’ll share my answers soon. For now… take care and I’ll see you again tomorrow!

The Gum has Come!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

A few of my dreams came true today.

First, was receiving something for free from a PR firm because of my site.

Second, was the fact that the thing I received from the PR firm was none other than 24 Jolt Energy Gum. That’s right, caffeinated gum people. There’s a tiny diagram on the box indicating that just 2 pieces of Jolt Energy Gum equal 1 cup of coffee.

Third, is now I will be able to share my fortune among my readers. Every week we’re going to have a contest. I’ll announce and explain what the contest will be tomorrow. But, you’ll all have a chance to win a pack of Energy Gum. This will be great!

I’ve had a chance to try a piece and I can attest to its ability to give you an uplift. It really is an ingenious way to get caffeine in your body.

I’ve got 24 packs here and I’ll be sending them out after every weekly contest.

Stay tuned for more details about the contest I’m sure you’re all going to love…

24 Character Countdown Logo & Feature (In Development)

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

As you know I’ve talked a lot about this new feature that’s going to be coming to Watching 24. After every episode review, I’ll then post the points I have awarded or taken away from each character based on his or her merits or blunders.

Everyone will start out with 100 points depending on what they do, and how I feel their points will go up or down.

Example:
Jack starts with 100 points
-kills terrorist +10
-tells Chloe to shut up and do what she’s told +14
-actually listens to orders from division -7

Total: 117

Chloe starts with 100 points
-first scowl of the season -8
-stops killer virus infecting the CTU’s network +15
-watches poor Edgar die in a roomful of noxious gas released into CTU because the stupid fat hobbit didn’t want to appear moronic for losing his security pass -10

Total: 97

I’ll keep track the entire season. Hopefully everyone will have fun with this. I’ll still do reviews of every episode, but this will just be a way for all of us 24 fans to have a little fun with the most intense show on TV.

Also, I have a prototype of the logo for the feature, but I’m not sure about it. Keep in mind that I’m not a photoshop whiz like a lot of people are. But, here’s kind of what I had in mind. It needs to be cleaned up a little but you get the idea.

Again I’d like to thank Jess at Apropos of Something for the idea.

Also, the character’s pictures will be sized right, this is also kind of a test to see how everything will look.

What does everyone think?

Happy Birthday Kiefer!

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Today is the birthday of our favorite 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland.

He was born in London, England on December 21, 1966. Actor Donald Sutherland is his father. A little known fact about Kiefer was that his name at birth was Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland. Celebrities are always weird with naming their kids, but having 7 names, no thanks.

Now let’s take a look back at what Kiefer has done to get to where he is today. The first movie I remember seeing Kiefer in was Lost Boys (1987). It was a campy, cheesy vampire flick, which I hated. Then came Flatliners (1990) who he co-starred with Julia Roberts who was his fiancee. Then there were movies like Young Guns (1988), with Emilio Estevez which were just awful.

So, fine Kiefer’s career before 24 wasn’t all that amazing. But, then 24 came and Jack Bauer was born. Kiefer has carried the show through 5 seasons, with a sixth just around the corner. Jack Bauer has saved the world countless times. Kiefer has become a worldwide celebrity.

And on this special day, we here at Watching 24 would like to wish Kiefer a happy birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Peter MacNicol is on Season 6 of 24

Monday, November 6th, 2006

I have NO idea what role he’s actually playing, but Peter MacNicol cracks me up and I don’t know what to think about him on a show like 24.

I remember him from Ghostbusters 2, and his most wonderful line saying “EVIL?”

Kiefer Talks 24 Movie Details

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

For all of you that are concerned about how the 24 movie is going to play out, here’s the skinny.
I found an article on National Ledger.

The movie will be a 2 hour representation of a ‘24′ hour day.
Kiefer explains:

“It will be weird because the film will be a two-hour representation of the 24 day, which will really give us an incredible amount of freedom, he says.

I don’t know what to think about this. The whole hour by hour thing is what made the show ground-breaking and original. Take away that, and what do you have? The Sentinel? Please, anything but that!

As of right now I have faith in the 24 team.

But, this could truly make or break season 8. As the movie will be placed between seasons 7 and 8, if people think the movie was awful. Then they’ll be less likely to watch the upcoming season.
