Thoughts on 9PM to 10 PM

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Good morning, everyone! How about that episode? I kind of like it when an episode is a little more low key and not filled with explosions and a huge body count. Anyway… here’s a little run down and my thoughts on it all.

FBI/Former CTU

Well, Renee’s now truly become a part of the CTU bunch. Not only did she do a couple of things that she maybe shouldn’t have to help Jack, she also got suspended and taken into custody over it! You just aren’t a part of that group unless you’ve done all three. Speaking of people getting into trouble for Jack, it was pretty nice to get to see Chloe getting bailed out by Morris like that. I like her and I don’t wanna see the character get dragged down like that. I just wonder what effect Morris’ deal to get her off is going to have on them now. As for Jack… what can I say? He’s doing his annual ‘on the run because I’ve been framed/got in trouble and still have work to do’ thing. Pretty entertaining to watch though. Especially when Larry’s sitting there looking like his head’s about to explode. Can’t wait to see how he’s going to react when Jack saves them all and gets his inevitable free pass at the end of the season. Janis, meanwhile, continues to out geek someone on something only to be thwarted by something she can’t do. Nice to get a little Tony appearance as well.

The White House

I’m continuing to adore Olivia and think she’s obviously lying about that leak. She wants Ethan out and she’s gonna do it somehow. She really is like Sherry, huh? As for Ethan…. I love how he’s getting a hissy fit over being called out on his own crappy performance. He’s either the most incompetent CoS ever or he’s evil. How else has he missed all the stuff that happened at the White House under his nose? About time someone said so. As for the President… I’m continuing to like her much more than I did early on. Still, she needs to wise up because she’s getting played by someone, whether it’s Olivia or Ethan.

The Bad Guys

Hodges is getting pretty interesting, I think. He’s also a little more… crazy than most 24 villains, but it’s making him fun to watch. I mean, first a nice drink and now he’s kidding about pajama parties? I also love how they seem to be one step ahead of all the government people still. Wuinn killing Senator Hardass was also a big shocker. I didn’t think it would happen so quickly. So what did you all think? Post your thoughts below so we can chat about it. Take care and see ya tomorrow. I leave y’all with a preview for next week, thanks to the always awesome Jonas Hodges:

Recap: 3-4 PM

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Hello, again. So let’s talk the latest episode, shall we?

Rouge CTU (and FBI)

Not really rouge anymore. They’ve now joined up with the President and Ethan, as well as Agent Moss at the FBI. I’m thinking that wasn’t really the smartest move after an operation to rescue the First Gentleman goes very wrong. The Matobu decoy they sent to try and buy some time ended up getting blown up by Dubaku’s people, along with the agent who was driving him. Meanwhile, Moss isn’t too happy when Renee goes along with Jack’s idea to hold Vossler’s wife and kid at gunpoint to get the dirty SS agent to talk. Surprisingly (or not, since this is 24), Vossler breaks and reveals where Henry is being held. When Jack and Renee arrive, a gunfight ensues that gets Henry shot. They better hope he survives if they want the President on their side. Also, Janis calls out Sean on his fling, while Sean spends a lot of the episode complaining about how they were kept out of the loop on the Matobu rescue.

The White House

After her husband gets kidnaped and the bad guys make a threat on his life, Ethan tells her that no one will blame her for backing down on Sangala. Even though you can see she really wants to, she doesn’t. She thins it would be completely unfair to have the American people sacrifice (the plane crashes, chemical plant) if she can’t as well. Meanwhile, she’s met with the rouges and has demanded answers. They explain about the corruption in the government. Something that is quickly confirmed by Ethan when he comes in to tell her that Gedge was found dead alongside Samantha and was probably part of the plot against Henry. She agrees to work with them and they put the ill-fated mission I mentioned before into place. I think it was better when Jack and Co. were working alone.

The Bad Guys

So, Dubaku has a double life going on (complete with waitress girlfriend) that is starting to get in the way of his work. Girlfriend wants him to come by for dinner, but he can’t. Being a terrorist is busy work, after all. She pouts a little, but is totally sweet and understanding. She’s also very defensive of him when her sister starts in on not trusting him. I, meanwhile, start trying to calculate about how fast they’re going to join Vossler and others in the afterlife. You know the nosy sister is going to get it at least. Especially after she calls and informs him she knows he’s not who he says he is and demands that he break up with her sister. Yeah, that’s totally going to work out for her. My guess is he’s heading over there right now. Later, Dubaku is informed that the ‘prime minister’ isn’t getting out of the car that was supposed to deliver him to them. He realizes they’ve been had and gives the order to take care of them and the First Gentleman. That last part may have just been stopped by Jack and Renee, who blow through his minions pretty quickly. Now they just gotta hope 911 gets there in time to save Henry.

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll leave you with a preview for next time, thanks to Jonas Hodges:

Episode 7 RECAP: 2 PM to 3 PM

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Hello, again! So, here we are with another weekend on the way. I thought a nice way to end the week and lead up to the new episode Monday would be a recap (The Mole Hunt and other stuff will come back next week). So lets get down to it…

Rogue CTU

There isn’t a whole lot to say about this. As was pointed out in a comment on the Character Countdown, they spent most of the episode prowling around an office building waiting to strike and rescue the Matobus. They do manage to do so (well, Renee does the actual rescuing) and end up with a bit of dissension in the ranks and Dubaku on the run. Jack wants to get outside help now that first responders had to be called to the building (Dubaku blew it up) and it’s just getting too big to hide. The others, Renee included, think this is not the best idea. Ya know, the whole ‘our government is corrupt and can’t be trusted’ thing. Jack doesn’t seem to think there’s any other option and the Matobus agree that the best course of action is to go to the President herself. Everyone is eventually convince except for Tony, who insists he has something he can check out. Plus, there’s the whole having been a terrorist thing. Jack, the guy who traveled the world to avoid getting served, tells him he has to take responsibility for what he’s done. Tony says he will, but he’s got a vibe about him that makes me wonder if he should be part of my mole hunt.

The White House

For once, we didn’t have an endless argument over whether or not to call off the mission. I’m guessing this is partly because Ethan, Tim and others feel that the only way to get her to do it would be if her husband convinced her. Unfortunately for them, he has been kidnaped by Vossler and is unable to do any persuading right now. After trying several times, Ethan is forced to interrupt the President’s speech planning to let her know henry’s gone missing. He promises that they’ve sent people to his last known location and they’ll figure out what’s up soon. Uh huh. By the way… Ethan is also giving me some real bad vibes this week.

The FBI

tomJanis is hot on the trail of a code fragment she thinks will help them find the next intrusion by the CIP device before an actual attack happens (by the way… is anyone other than me wishing they had a nickle for every time they’ve said ‘CIP device’ on the show this year?) Moss is kinda iffy on the idea, but Janis insists on trying and promises she’ll drop it if it looks like it’s gonna go nowhere. He agrees and she and Sean get to work, with Sean wondering if Moss is up to handling everything. Janis says he is and makes it clear she doesn’t want to hear that question again. After some hacking, Janis finally finds something and they realize that a chemical plant near Kidron, Ohio is on the target list. She has Sean get the number and informs the plant manager (John Brunner) of what’s going on. John tries to get his men to shut the tanks down, but they can’t. Janis tells him to get everyone out and orders Sean to let Moss know what’s going on. Brunner, as the manager, feels personally responsible for making sure all his people get out safe and goes into the room with the tanks himself to try and manually release some of the building pressure to buy them escape time. He goes even further by having Janis tell him how to release the chemicals right into the room. She’s surprised and doesn’t want to do it, but he pushes until she gives in. Once the crisis is over, Brunner is dead and Janis is trying to contact Brunner’s family to let them know what he did.

The Terror Crew

Dubaku, after spending most of the episode commanding the attack, suddenly calls it off and makes them all run (along with destroying the CIP device) when he finds out Jack and Co. are in the building. Not before yelling at Nichols for failing to catch this earlier. Personally, I think he should be telling at himself for relying on security cameras that have a 20 minute delay… but that’s just me. If you’re gonna get enough equipment to mess with the entire technological infrastructure of the US, what’s a few extra bucks added to the security budget? Before he makes his big escape, he rigs Latham with a bomb and warns that he will kill Latham’s family if he doesn’t let himself get blown up. The last sequence he’s in has him in an apartment, waiting for Henry to be brought to him. A knock on the door sounds, but it ain’t the Vossler or his other minions. It’s his girlfriend, and apparently he’s got dinner plans tonight. What a multi-tasker! Evil-Doer by day, sweet boyfriend meeting the family over dinner by night.

Well, that’s it for now. Take care and see ya next time.

Day 7, 12 PM to 1 PM Recap

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Good morning! I’m back and here to give you a recap of the latest episode in case you didn’t get to see it. It opens up with Jack, Tony and the rest of Emerson’s gang at the Prime Minister’s residence, trying to get one of his men to open the safe room. Since the room can only be opened from inside, Emerson has them hack into the video phone system and informs him that the guard will be killed if he and his wife don’t come out in the next minute. Naturally, the guard and the PM refuse. Emerson is just about to kill the guard when a call comes in from the FBI. He and some of the others decide they have to leave now. Jack and Tony convince them that there is time and they can’t leave without their targets. They say they can chase them out with some homemade gas, which is sent into the room through the ventilation system (great security, by the way…) It almost doesn’t work, but the PM’s wife panics and opens the door. They get led out and into a truck.

Renee, meanwhile, has arrived and is watching the group climb into the truck. She had gone ahead to the house despite Moss’ order to come back to the office. It seems that Tanner’s lawyers moved fast and got a complaint filed against her with the Attorney General. She calls Moss back to fill him in on what she’s seeing, but is captured before she can give him a plate number or any other information. She’s led into the truck along with everyone else.

Back at the FBI office, the people from the Attorney General’s office wanna speak with Janis, too. They were told about her stalling the lawyers. Janis tries to act like she was not involved, of course. Before they can take her away to interview her, Moss comes along and insists they need her to handle communications right now. He gives her an assignment and tells the guy to wait his turn. Elsewhere in the office, Sean is apparently messing around with another agent named Erica. When she mentions his wife’s plane getting grounded he gets a kinda smug look and talks about being lucky. He doesn’t seem to be trying too hard to hide what he did, does he? He and Janis later intercept a phone call between Emerson and the others in which he is ordered to get rid of Renee since they know she doesn’t have any other information that can be used against them. Moss makes Sean and Janis work on tracing the call again and continues to blow off the guy with the Attorney General.

There’s not too much to say about the White House. It’s pretty much the same story- President’s being advised to call off the invasion, but she refuses. Not even the information that the PM has been abducted changes her mind. I, meanwhile, continue to be suspicious of the Chief of Staff and Secretary of State. Mr. Taylor is, yet again, getting Brian to help him with the investigation into his son’s death since there is new evidence. Brian agrees and they leave. Henry is surprised when they end up at Samantha’s apartment. Even more surprised when Brian puts on some gloves and reveals he’s a bad guy. Henry’s been poisoned and Samantha is being led there by another corrupt agent. They plan to kill her and make it look like Henry did it before killing himself as well.

Finally, what is one of the creepiest segments, in my opinion. Emerson has directed them all to a construction site and ordered Jack to kill Renee now that they know she hasn’t learned anything dangerous to them. He leads her several feet away and they argue a bit, Renee telling him if he’s going to shoot her he’s going to have to look her in the eyes, because she won’t turn around. He forces her to and mutters something to her about getting her out of this before just barely grazing her with a bullet. She falls over and plays dead while Jack dumps her into a hole. He’s taken by surprise, though, when Emerson orders him and Tony to bury her. The last shot we see is from Renee’s perspective as the dirt covers her eyes and the silent clock ticks. Well, that’s it for this episode. Take care and I’ll see you next time. I leave you with the preview for next week. As usual, it’s thanks to Jonas Hodges Enjoy it!

Premiere, Part 4

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Good evening, everyone!! As promised, I’m here to give you the last part of the premiere recap. The FBI is trying to find Jack and Tony, following their escape last episode. Renee is especially determined to find them. When the President and Ethan discover this, they let the FBI have it for letting the men get away. They jump right into trying to get themselves off the hook by identifying the sniper from earlier, a man named Alan Tanner. He used to be in special forces and was in a dispute with the government over Gulf War Syndrome. He’s out cold in the hospital, but Renee makes plans to interview him when he wakes up. The president, meanwhile, switches to arguing with Ethan (I sense a trend starting…) over whether or not to call off the troops. She says she can’t just give in to terrorists the first time one asks after running on promises of doing the exact opposite. Ethan disagrees.

Jack and Tony meet with Bill and Chloe, Jack wanting to know how on earth Tony is still alive. Tony says he was given a shot that revived him and spent some time working with this group for real, because he was so angry about what happened to Michelle. Finally, they came up with a plan he knew was going too far and went to Bill for help. That’s when he started working for the good guys again. Later on, he calls David Emerson (the leader of the group) and tells him about Jack and how he helped him escape from the FBI. He says Jack is willing to help in exchange for help in getting out of the country.

Henry, meanwhile, is still reeling from Sarah confessing that his son was, in fact, killed and asks Agent Gesh to take him to meet Sarah in person. Gesh isn’t happy about it, but he relents after Henry promises this will be the last time he asks for something involving this from him. Right after, The President comes in and tells Henry what’s been going on and asks for some advice. He tells her he trusts her to make the right call, no matter what he decision is. Awww…. later on, Sarah provides him with proof of his son’s murder and begs him to leave her out of it from now on since her own life was threatened if she told anyone anything about this.

Renee and Sean are discussing the search for Jack and Tony when Janis comes along and tells Renee that Alan has woken up. Rene wants to go talk to him and wants Janis with her. Especially once she finds out lawyers are on the way. As they leave, Sean’s wife calls, anxious because her plane’s just circling with several others. He lies to her about everything being cool and then snaps at a co-worker in frustration. Later, he impersonates Larry to get his wife’s plane grounded sooner. Yeah, he’s not gonna pay for that one later…

On the way to the terror hide out, Tony fills Jack in on David and the group. Jack isn’t happy to notice that Tony seems to still admire the guy. Tony assures him that he can do what has to be done to stop the group from succeeding. When they arrive at the house, Tony tries to convince David that they need Jack around to help, but David isn’t so sure. He doesn’t really trust him. Jack finally takes a guy hostage and argues that he can get the job done and he’s here because he has nowhere else to go.

The President meets with the Prime Minister and tells him about the threat and how they’re considering backing down for now. He isn’t happy and begs the President to reconsider this, especially since so many people were counting on the support of the US. She promises to do what they can and yells at Ethan for not filling her in on all the details on the Sangala situation.

Bill and Chloe overhear a plot to kidnap the Prime Minister and she gets a little uncomfortable with this all. She thinks they should report what’s going on, but Bill reminds her they have to keep Tony and Jack’s cover and get to Dubaku if they’re ever going to get to the bottom of his full plans.

Meanwhile, Renee and Janis are arriving at the hospital to interview Tanner. Renee asks Janis to stall the lawyers while she talks with Tanner on her own. When he refuses to talk, she resorts to some of Jack’s old methods and Tanner spills everything he knows. She calls Moss to let him know that the terrorists are planning to kidnap the Prime Minister and they plan to try and capture Tony then. Word is passed along to the Prime Minister’s people, who lead him and his wife to safety. The episode ends with a big fight and the Prime Minister and his wife hiding in the building. I leave you with a clip from the premiere event, thanks to upalisevise on youtube. Take care and see you on Sunday!!

Premiere, Part 3

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Good afternoon, everyone!! Sorry for the post delay today. A minor emergency came up last night and kept me from being able to get the post typed up and all until now. With no further delays, here is the premiere, part 3! In case you missed them, here are parts 1 and 2.

We begin the episode with the President listening to a message from the General with Ethan. She is not happy about the situation and wants to see what they can do about getting that code the terrorists stole changed. She’s told it’ll take 6 days to do it, which is time they really don’t have. She then says she wants Almeida brought in and interviewed immediately.

Renee’s boss confronts her about the little side mission she went on with Jack, furious she lied about where they were going. She argues that there is a mole within the FBI and they had to work more discreetly. He lets it go, but orders here to run everything else by him from now on. Jack doesn’t like that, but Renee insists they can trust him.

Janis is preparing Tony to be interrogated, even asking if he’s comfortable enough (they really are taking this ‘no torture’ thing seriously). While she’s doing that, Jack and Renee are discussing the mole situation. She insists that everyone is being watched very closely, although the others in the office are not happy about the restrictions they’re under now.

Dubaku, meanwhile, is furious to learn about Tony’s capture. He wants to move now so he can get back at the US for his brother’s death before any other setbacks happen.

Back at the FBI, Jack is trying his best to get them to let him interview Tony, since they have a long history. They finally agree and Jack confronts Tony about what he’s been doing, demanding answers. Tony won’t talk, though… except for going off on an anti-government rant that ends with Tony accusing Jack of spitting on Teri’s grave by continuing to help the US. Jack, obviously, doesn’t take that well and is led out of the room, with Tony using the phrase ‘deep sky’. It’s an old CTU code and Jack calls the number it’s talking about…. Bill Buchanan answers the phone and he tells Jack he will have to call back on a more secure line.

While all that’s going on, Henry is talking to Ethan about the death of the Taylor’s son. Ethan argues against the theory, making it clear people are starting to wonder about his sanity and reveals that his son was under investigation for insider trading, but the President had kept it quiet. He later gets into a fight with the President over withdrawing their forces from Sangala, something she is opposed to. Meanwhile, Henry calls Sarah to apologize for his behavior. She says she has to meet with him in person.

Later, Bill calls Jack and informs him that Tony isn’t a traitor. He, Bill, Chloe and a couple others are working in secret to try and stop all the corruption in the government. He tells Jack they need Tony out of the FBI offices. At the same time, Tony is being interrogated by Larry. He’s showing pictures of the horrible things done to the people of Sangala, trying to appeal to his conscience. Tony won’t budge, leading Renee to ask if they should try some other tactics. Larry doesn’t like hearing that, thinking Renee is starting to think like CTU and says he wants Jack out of the investigation entirely. She doesn’t like it, but agrees to do with he says and prepares to get Jack de-briefed.
Meanwhile, Janis thinks she’s found the mole (Sean). He just happens to walk in as she’s looking at the records he accessed and shouldn’t have, making her freak out and finally confront him. He denies having done anything wrong and says he just wanted to find out if his wife had ended up on one of the planes.

Now that Jack knows what Tony’s up to, he jumps into action, attacking Renee so she can’t stop him from leaving the room. In typical Jack style, he goes through several people to get to Tony, helping him escape…. (part 4 to come tomorrow) I leave you with a little clip of the fight that led to Tony’s capture, along with some White House action. Enjoy and thanks to JonasHodges for posting.

Premiere, Part 2

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

As promised, I’m here to fill you in on what happened on the second half of the premiere. During the last episode, Air Traffic Control noticed an irregularity in their signals. Now, they’ve lost all communication with a commercial flight and Tony’s group now has control of the plane. They’re directing the plane as though they are ATC.

The FBI is busy with an interrogation gone wrong last episode. A man named Shekter had been shot by snipers whiled being interviewed by Renee and Jack regarding Tony’s whereabouts. This episode, the FBI has sealed off the building to catch the shooter. Jack is getting suspicious about the whole situation and is convinced that the fact this shooter was able to take the guy out when he did is proof there’s a traitor in the FBI (I guess they’re taking the new CTU thing pretty seriously). Renee doesn’t believe it, though.

Meanwhile, ATC is trying to get in touch with passengers on the plane to try and get word about the hijacking. Before they can, Tony calls ATC and has them check a video feed that shows two planes about the collide, one of them being the one he and his group is controlling. At the very last second, he yells to the pilot to pull up on the controls and the crash is avoided. Tony then tells ATC that was just a demonstration and they’ll see the real thing if they don’t get what they want. Later, the President is informed of what’s going on and starts demanding the FBI get some answers and take care of the situation. She has also met with the Prime Minister of Sangola to discuss taking care of the General and how to move ahead from there. They have the press secretary give a news conference about it.

Jack, meanwhile, is sitting in an FBI car waiting for the sniper to be captured. While sitting there, an agent turns to him and starts telling him that he supports Jack and thinks the Senate hearings are wrong. Jack’s grateful for the support, but he says it is fair… the people can hear the truth and decide how far they’re willing to go. Jack asks to get some air and the agent lets him. While Jack is standing outside, he notices someone in FBI clothes walking away that sets off his spidey sense(tony sent someone to help the sniper get out) and tips off Renee. She checks into it and finds out the man is not, in fact, one of them and wants to report it. Jack convinces her to follow him instead. She agrees and they leave, arousing the FBI’s suspicions. Her boss questions her and Renee lies about where they’re going. He doesn’t believe her and spys on them, coming in time to catch the end up a big fight involving Tony.

Towards the end of the episode we find out that the surviving Dubaku is plotting against the US because he considers them responsible for his brother’s death. Also, Henry (the president’s husband) confronts his son’s ex, accusing her of knowing more than she says because he found money in an offshore account she received only three days after his son’s death. Stay tuned tomorrow to read how the rest of it all turns out. See ya next time!

I leave you with some commentary and a peak at what’s to come in hours 3 and 4 courtesy of bigedude44 on youtube. Enjoy!!

Premiere, Part 1

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Well, now that the four-part premiere is over, I’m here to give you the rundown on all the action. I’ll start with part one tonight and post another part each day for the next few days. Enjoy and feel free to discuss the episode in the comments section.

The episode opens with a man and his daughter arguing because he won’t let her use a cell phone while they’re in the car and he’s talking on one. They suddenly get rammed by another car and masked men with guns jump out from all over and take the guy hostage. One of the masked men tells the victim (whose name is Lafen) he’s going to help them fix something.

Meanwhile, Jack is being interviewed by the senate committee about torture practices. The man interviewing him offers to let him come back later with counsel, but Jack refuses. He wants to just answer the questions. The man nods and asks about someone named Hadad. Jack admits to torturing him and refuses to apologize for his actions. He says that the terrorists don’t care about the rules, so you can’t always play by them when trying to stop one of their plots. The argument is stopped by a woman who comes in and demands to take Jack. Turns out, the FBI needs him to deal with a pressing threat involving technology. She takes him to the office to fill him in, although the FBI ain’t exactly thrilled to see him. They look down on CTU and make a couple cracks about their methods. The agent, Renee Walker, tells Jack about several thefts recently and reveals that Tony Almeida is behind them. Jack is in shock and can’t bring himself to believe Tony’s alive, much less evil. She challenges him to find him so he can prove himself right. He agrees to help. The camera cuts to Tony threatening a man.

At the White House the President is debating with Ethan about how to handle the Sangala situation. She ends up coming to the conclusion that there is going to have to be a military response.

Now that Jack is one board with the investigation, he’s been introduced to other staff, including an analyst named Sean Hunter. He’s going to help gather information. Another staffer, Janis, is freaking out about the threat, knowing if someone got through the firewall that was breeched, they could do major damage in almost every way. Renee calms her down and gets her back to work. Meanwhile, Renee has decided that since they have to interview a suspect who knows Jack very well, they may as well use his bad reputation to get him to talk. She promises her boss she’ll keep Jack on a short leash.

Finally… the President’s son is dead, the victim of an apparent suicide a little while back. Her husband is convinced that there is something more going on and is determined to learn the truth.

24: Redemption, Part 2

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

So, as I promised, I am here to give you part 2 of 24: Redemption. Catch up on the first half here. Let’s just right in, huh?

Taylor’s son is meeting with Chris, who wants to sell out his bosses now that he knows there is a connection to terrorism in the work he’s been doing for them. Roger isn’t quite sure what to make of his story since his secret service guy informed him Chris is messed up. He does, however, agree to look at the records Chris claims to have and see if there is anything he can do to help him. His girlfriend, Samantha, is pretty cool towards Chris. She doesn’t seem to like him at all and apparently works in the same office as Chris, since he says he will see her at work later on. (more…)

24: Redemption, Part 1

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

It’s been a long time, but we finally got some new 24 in late November. It was a two-hour movie that sets up the new season called redemption. Check out the trailer below

Now that you’re all in the right mood, let me fill you in on what happened in case you missed it. I’ll recap the first hour today and the final hour tomorrow. The whole thing took place in real time (as always) between 3 PM and 5 PM Africa time.

We see a man rounding up a bunch of kids in Africa. He plans to turn them into soldiers to fight what he sees as an unfair government. He hands one of the children a weapon and tells them all their parents made them weak, but he is going to make them strong. They will fight to take back the country. He talks the child he handed the weapon to into killing a man in front of the others. They all hoot and cheer when the kid does. The scene changes to two children (Desmond and his brother Willie) fighting. A third kid comes along and breaks it up and Desmond goes off the ring a bell that causes a bunch of other children to come running towards a school house.

The scene changes to show Willie in a room, going through someone’s things. Jack Baur then walks in and we find out this is his room and the scarf Willie is holding was intended for Kim. Jack bought it in India. The kid starts asking all kinds of questions, finally revealing that Jack is not intending to go home again. Jack tells the kid he can keep the scarf as long as Willie gives him the knife back. Willie pulls it out and hands it back to Jack.

Once again, we change scenes and Carl (the head of the school) is introducing Jack to a man we saw a little earlier traveling with a young man he ordered to turn the car’s AC off. It turns out this guy (Frank) is from the Embassy and is trying to serve Jack a federal supena. Frank informs Jack he has to respond, as ignoring it is a federal offense. Jack says his response is “if they want me back in Washington, they can come and get me”. Jack walks off to help the kids load a truck and Frank tells Carl he needs to talk sense into Jack. Carl tries, telling Jack that running constantly (as he has for a year now, ducking the thing) isn’t actually freedom. Jack says he’s lost everything else and he’s not going to go back and get locked up, too, and feels it’s best he leaves now. Carl isn’t happy Jack is leaving, but knows he can’t change his mind. As Jack leaves, Carl hears a fight breaking out between Solenz and Thomas. Apparently, there’s a rumor that someone is going to steal a bunch of the kids from a nearby area. Carl decides to go check it out.

A man named Dubaku (the guy from earlier, who took the kids) gets a phone call from a man named Hodges in Washington. Hodges has been providing Dubaku with guns and other supplies and wants to send him professional troops. Dubaku refuses, saying the weapons are all he needs before hanging up. Hodges hangs up and tells another man with him (Nichols) that he doesn’t want the transactions to be traceable. Nichols nods and calls in another guy (Chris), ordering him to close all the accounts and burn the records. Chris agrees, but seems a bit weirded out. He later places a call to a man named Roger, begging Roger to meet with him. Roger has somewhere to be, but promises he will meet, but he’s leaving in exactly 45 minutes. Roger’s girlfriend is not happy with Chris coming, but Roger feels like he has to help. It appear Chris may have a bit of a drug issue. Girlfriend agrees, but tells him he can’t be late for his mother’s inauguration.

The scene changes to a group of children playing. The fun’s quickly interrupted by gunfire and Dubaku telling the children they are now part of the People’s Freedom Army. He plans to use two of these kids (one is Desmond) to get to the others at the school. Desmond and the other boy (James) try to make a run for it, but they are shot. Dubaku yells at the man who shot them, since they are no good to them dead. Meanwhile, the other kids are rounded up and driven away.

The scene switches again, and we get our first glimpse of Roger’s mom, President-Elect Tayler. She’s walking down the hall with her husband discussing how nervous and excited she is when Tom Lennox arrives (remember him?) and tells President-Elect that her predecessor can’t meet with her. He’s busy with a situation. Since this is going to be her situation in a couple hours, she demands to know what’s going on. He says it’s a coup and that the President is on the phone with Sangola’s Prime Minister. PM wants help, but the President is not granting it because he’s about to leave and it’s more her job. He just doesn’t want to help, which Taylor disagrees with.

Back in Africa, Carl finds the field and two bodies. Only one (Desmond) is still alive. He helps Desmond up and leads him away from the scene. Meanwhile, Willie is begging to leave with Jack. Jack won’t let him, telling Willie he needs to stay and help everyone here. Before Jack can get away from the camp, a call comes in through the radio. It’s Carl, telling Jack that men are on their way to steal the kids and he has to help them. All the adults jump into action, leading the kids into a shelter while Jack gathers weapons. Carl begs for help from the Embassy, but Frank says none is going to be given. The President won’t let them and they are not evacuating all nationals. The only way they can get help is to show up there before the last Chopper leaves. A woman with a baby is at the Embassy begging for help, because her husband fought against the members of the Coup and she’ll be killed along with her child. Frank refuses her because she’s not a national. Meanwhile, Jack’s been captured by the Coup members after having put up a pretty good fight and is being tortured to get info about where the kids are. Jack pretends to give in when he sees Carl is right there. Carl starts shoots the men who have been sent in his direction while Jack manages to break Dubaku’s brother’s neck with his legs. Carl hurries over the Jack and sets him free. And there you have it… the first hour. Stay turned for part two tomorrow. Take care!!
