Episode 5 Character Countdown
Good afternoon. I’m back as promised with the countdown for this week. If you’d like to read over the recap for the episode first, here’s the link. And now… let’s get on with the countdown!
Jack Bauer (137)
-Taking a huge risk by gassing out the Prime Minister and his Wife (+12)
-Managing to not blow his cover while Renee was lecturing him (+12)
-Fooling Emerson and crew by pretending to shoot Renee (+10- had to take points off for lack of originality, though. He did almost the same exact thing with Nina in Season 1)
Gain/Loss: +34
=== 171
Janis Gold (117)
-Lying to the AG guy (+18- I really didn’t like him!)
-Being the only one apparently with the brains to realize Moss is hot for Walker (+9)
-Showing emotions other than nervousness or sarcasm (+12)
-Actually admitting what she did for Renee to Sean (-14. So much for that brain power from earlier. Especially if he’s the mole)
Gain/Loss: + 25
=== 142
Larry Moss (114)-Lecturing Renee about the torture charges (+8)
-Telling off the guy from the AG’s office (+20. Again… really don’t like that guy!)
-Getting Janis temporarily off the hook (+9)

-Getting caught by the terrorists (-9)
-Keeping cool and defiant while being captured (+18)
-Apologizing to the Prime Minister and his wife for her failure (+9)
-Trying a guilt trip on Jack, who she thinks is an evil terrroist (-8)
Gain/Loss: +26
=== 165
Sean Hillinger (87)
-Turning out to be a cheating creep (-19)
-Wearing a smug little smile through that reveal (-10)
-Helping Janis trace the call that refers to Renee (+9)
-Being kinda hot (+8)
Gain/Loss: -12
=== 75
President Taylor (103)
-Refusing to back down to terrorists (+15)
-Constantly whining while defending her invasion plan (-9)
-Making me almost fall asleep this week (-10)
Gain/Loss: -4
=== 99
Henry Taylor (113)
-Pushing ahead with the investigation to clear his son’s name (+20)
-Not filling his wife in on what’s going on (-9. Don’t these people learn anything? Unless you’re Jack, working alone is a good way to reserve a hop into the death pool.)
Gain/Loss: +11
===124
Tony Almieda (122)
-Spending a lot of the episode being Jack’s bitch (-8)
-Still wearing that outfit (+14)
-Actually speaking for himself a few times to try and save Renee (+17)
-Pointing out to Jack they might kill the Prime Minister with his little plan (+12)
Gain/Loss: +35
=== 157
Mutobu (100)
-Refusing to give the terrorists information (+13)
-Being willing to sacrifice himself before he’d hurt his country (+14)
-Not insisting on a more secure ‘safe room’ (-9)
Gain/Loss: +18
====118
Mrs. Mutobo (100)
-Thinking it’s ok to sacrifice the guard for Sangala, but not herself (-10)
-Opening the Safe room and allowing them to be captured (-10)
Gain/Loss: -20
====80
Brian (100)-Taking a gamble and suggesting they go to the President (-9)
-Giving away the whole plan like some cheesy super villain (-14)
-Poisoning the First Gentlemen and maybe offing the only interesting member of the Taylor family (-10)
-Looking good while being bad (+10)
Gain/Loss: -23
====77 (corrected score)
Weekly Awards:
Most Efficient Lawyers Ever Award- Given to Tanner’s lawyers for managing to have a full scale investigation in Renee’s interrogation of him in less than one hour. Now that’s speedy service!
The McGuyver Award- Given to Jack Bauer for managing to make a deadly gas out of the cleaning products in the Prime Minister’s Home.
Worst Contractors Ever Award- Given to whoever put together that ‘safe room’. Shouldn’t the ventilation system be just a little harder to attack? I mean, really…
The Best Timing Ever Award: Given to the FBI for calling and interrupting the execution of the Mutobo’s guard.
So, there you have it: the character countdown! Do you all agree? Any points you’d give out/take away to people? Let me know! Take care and see ya next time!

Doesn’t add up?! Unless it’s meant to be +110 for the last one, which seems excessive!

How about minus points for Renee for moving her eyes while being buried by Jack AND Tony. She’s supposed to be dead! How does she know that Tony is on Jack’s side??? Or is she just super smart to realize everything that’s going on. In that case, plus points…?

That was my mistake. Did some addition instead of subtraction by mistake. I’ve corrected it. And I may be crazy, but I’m giving Renee the benefit of the doubt on that situation for now. Jack made it clear he was trying to save her and he worked hard to release Tony from the FBI after expressing doubts Tony is bad, so I think she realized they both can be trusted. Now, if she survives this and goes back to the FBI demanding Jack’s head, she’ll be losing serious points.

I have to go back and watch it online but with Renee lying in the ditch, how did she know it was Jack and Tony coming back and not someone else to verify Jack’s work? Maybe they were talking and she heard them, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a 3rd quiet person there. I think it was a mistake to have her open her eyes.

I’ll have to re-watch that scene to check on that, too.
