Reviewing DVDs…

by

So, I’m sure you all remember that the DVD for season 7 was released the day after the finale aired. I went out to the store to try and buy it and apparently it had already sold out there. Still didn’t end up getting a copy, but for those who are planning on doing so I thought I’d share this review with you.

It’s a really comprehensive review that goes into sound and picture quality, among other things. There even a run down of each episode and the reviewers take on each one. The thing I thought was the most interesting about it was it was written by a new fan of the show. The writer, Chad Webb, had never seen an episode of the series before. Since I started watching with the very first episode, it was great to have a fresh perspective on it all. What’s even more interesting is the rating for each episode. He grades each on a ten point scale and, surprisingly, the white house invasion episodes have the highest scores, while the finale looks to have the lowest one.

As an added bonus, he goes into great detail about each of the extras on the DVD. There are commentaries on half of the episodes and several different features. If you wanna read the whole thing for yourself, head on over here. That’s about it for now, but before I leave, I wanna share this video review as well by Bowlestrek. Enjoy!

First Impressions…

Hey, everyone! How’s it going? I hope everyone had a great holiday and you’re ready to get back to business like I am. Today, I have something a little different and kind of off-topic to talk about: tv show credits.

I was just reading an E!Online article discussing some of the best TV credits. One of the first ones they mentioned was 24. I gotta agree with that one fully. I love the cinematic feel of them and how they introduce characters to new viewers. I also enjoy how they manage to do this without being too cheesy with it.

Reading that, though, got me thinking some of my other favorites. Let’s start with some oldies and then move on to more recent shows, huh? First off? I love classic TV. I used to sit up in the summers when I was a kid and watch Nick at Nite almost every night. One of my favorites was the Patty Duke Show. It was about identical cousins (played by Patty Duke. Read about her if you don’t know her back story! She’s inspirational and fascinating) who are completely different, with one always getting into some crazy situation. Here’s the opening:

Another one I loved was I Love Lucy. I guess it’s nothing too special, but it just gives me a feel-good feeling: Read the rest of this entry »

Carlos’ New Project…

by

Hey, everyone!! Once again, the weekend is here and this time it’s a big one! I wanna wish you all a happy fourth and a safe holiday weekend. Have fun and be careful out there! Be sure to come back with stories and pictures of all the fun! For now, though? We’ve got some business to deal with. Namely, talking 24. Specifically what Carlos Bernard is up to these days.

E! had a little mention of Carlos doing a web series and how it just might end up going to TV along with a link to his official site, where the videos are. I haven’t been able to see them yet (they’re in quicktime and my computer apparently doesn’t have the right version or something), but there’s two of them. They’re called Mission Road and 101 Ways to Die. The first video is four minutes and the second is 6 minutes.

The first video credits Carlos as a co-writer and co-producer. Cool, huh? Anyway… it’s about a guy who moves back to his hometown to find the man who killed his father. He ends up getting a lot more than he planned on when he does….

The second video kind of reminds me of 24 from the description. Basically, this guy who is a war veteran discovers his wife and child have been taken hostage and they will be killed if he doesn’t kill for some mysterious group. He has to carry out their orders until he’s able to figure out who this group is and where they are.

Check em out here for yourself and then come back and tell me what you thought of them. I’d love to hear about it. Take care and I’ll see y’all Monday! In the spirit of the day, I leave you with a version of Stars and Stripes Forever I found on youtube:

Preview Time….

Looks like we’re not the only ones counting the days until new episodes of 24 come on. This website has an article by a Dale Roe who lists 24 among his favorites and one of the shows he’s most anxious to see return. I gotta say, I adore this guy. Why, you ask? Because he doesn’t like the prominence of reality shows any more than I do!

The article has a lot of the same ole stuff- he offers a little recap of what happened last season and talks briefly about the cast changes that are taking place this year. Another plus in this guy’s column? He’s as disturbed and confused about the Freddie Prinze, Jr. casting as I am. Now watch him be amazing in the part, forcing me to humiliatingly eat my words. You know it’s gonna happen!

Finally… he talks a little bit about what he would like to see on 24 next season (here’s a hint- it ain’t office intrigue). Again? I am in total agreement and about to issue a restraining order to get this guy out of my head! In all serious, it was an enjoyable read and I hope you all enjoy it too.

After you do, why not comment and let me know what you think of all this. Do you wanna see less White House intrigue? Are you annoyed about the never-ending torture debate of last season? Let’s chat about it! Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow. Enjoy this video as a parting gift… it was made by ivisfilms and is a teaser for the new season of 24:

(Even More) Casting News!

by

Hello, again! How’s it going? Me, I finally got the car situation straightened out so cross your fingers it stays that way! :) So, anyway, let’s talk 24! With the new season already in production, casting announcements have been coming out on a regular basis. It seems every other day there’s a new addition. Oddly enough, today’s casting announcement has a link not only to another person on this show, but a link to Housewives as well!

The latest person to join the show is Callum Keith Rennie. If that names looks familiar, it’s most likely because of Battlestar Gallactica. Here’s where the coincidence comes in- his character (Leoben) on the show was apparently very obsessed with Katee Sackhoff’s Starbuck. I wonder if they’re going to have any scenes together? The story I found didn’t give any other details about his character, but it did say that Katee went onto Facebook to say how happy she was about the announcement. I looked for clips of the two actors together in a scene, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Still, I did find this:

It’s a fan video made by Cait8915 about the strange relationship between the two characters! Enjoy and let me (and the creator) know what you think of it.

According to some reports, you can now see the actor on the show Harper’s Island. I won’t say much more than that, because I don’t wanna spoil anyone who’s watching it. The show also features Richard Burgi, who plays Karl Mayer on Desperate Housewives. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all next time!

My Favorite Lessons….

by

Hey, everyone! As I promised before, here is a look at some of my favorite lessons, courtesy of the 24 School House. What were yours? Be sure to comment and let me know! Also, scroll down to the end for a clip of the biggest ‘say what’ moment of the whole series, in my opinion:

NEVER ever fall for the ‘I’m gonna leave my wife’ line. Especially if the guy is a treasonist creep. It’s really bad for your health.

If you’re gonna pull a gun on Jack Bauer, you better be ready to use it.

Before you decide to frame someone for shooting you, you might wanna get their prints on the gun first…

Jack Bauer has no patience for phone calls interrupting him. Telemarketers everywhere, take note! (I really like this one lately. I can’t stop the phone from ringing!)

Just because you’re a terror!boss doesn’t mean you can’t be laid back once in awhile and offer your employees a nice drink to relax them after a hard day of evil doing.

FBI Agents are easily fooled by looping video

The only thing more dangerous than being a believer in Jack from the beginning is being the person who was completely against him and ends up changing his or her mind.

Bad guys are children who need their carrots. (I still wanna know what the writers were smoking when they came up with some of Jon’s lines…)

Ethan’s incompetent, but apparently not evil.

When going into a military-type facility that’s housing biological weapons, it’s totally ok to walk in without face masks or any other type of protection. Not only that, it’s ok to take only a small number of people to pull off a very important mission. (There really isn’t enough suspension of disbelief in the world sometimes, is there?)

After you’ve pulled the ruse? Pretend you were threatened and/or tortured, and you were only saying what you had to to make it stop. (I have to admit, that guy was good…)

Jack Bauer would rather die than have his daughter come around (I think a lot of fans feel the same way). – Well, at least she ended up being somewhat smart and useful towards the end, right?

When blackmailing someone, be sure to make that blackmail as incriminating as possible to you as well. Especially when you’re in a position of political power. (Why that guy never called her out on that, I’ll never know. The fallout and scandal would’ve been pretty devastating for the Taylor White House. Of course, Olivia one-upped that one later….)

There is always a bigger cog waiting in the wings. (This is probably one of the biggest lessons)

Lawyers (especially fake ones) are evil. (Can this ever be stated enough?)

Blood on the face apparently makes people unrecognizable, even to highly trained government agents. (I still can’t figure out how no one realized that was the guy they were after)

It’s no big thing to create a long e-mail, phone, etc. trail implicating an innocent person for an attack that is going to happen in mere hours.

I’ve learned never to trust a shady guy who helped you hire a hitman. He’ll always change the rules on you.

I’ve learned that it’s better to transfer funds to a hitman from your work computer when the Justice department is investigating the murder of a witness than to risk a hitman getting upset with you. It’s not like you’re under secret service protection or anything… (How dumb was that? It’s no wonder she got busted).

I’ve learned that the medical wishes of a patient who was in his right mind at the time he made his wishes known can be overridden by his daughter later on.

Before you destroy the supposed evidence of your wrong-doing, it’s a good idea to listen to it first to make sure it hasn’t been switched on you.

Here it is, courtesy of TwentyFourfans. Enjoy!

Casting News (No real spoilers involved)

by

In the time I’ve been writing this blog (and the Desperate Housewives one), I have seen so many connections between the two shows (not to mention other favorites of mine). Carlos and Karl from Housewives showed up on 24 in season 1, for example. Well, add one more connection to the list, because a new casting announcement as come out. This time, it’s for a recurring character.

Actor T.J. Ramini has signed on to be in the 8th season. He’ll be playing an associate of the middle eastern leader I mentioned awhile back. Of course, given all this, I don’t feel too good about his long-term status on the show. Still, it’ll be fun to see him in action elsewhere. So who is T.J. Ramini?

If you didn’t see season 5 of Housewives, here’s the scoop: Gabby was feeling frumpy and out of shape after having two kids and wanted to do something about it. Enter Edie, who tells her about an exercise bootcamp she’s been going to. T.J played the many in charge of the program, which was run with an iron fist. He got into a couple of good verbal sparring matches with Gabby, who didn’t like the intensive discipline of his program. I thought the actor did an awesome job and look forward to seeing what he can do in a more serious role.

If you didn’t catch his guest stint, and have no idea who T.J is, here is a little clip for you. It was posted by EvaLongtheBest:

And the day begins at….

by

Hey, everyone! Before I head out for the weekend, I wanted to share some scoop I read about the new season. No major plot reveals or anything, but it does reveal the start time for the season. If you don’t wanna know, beware the rest of this post.

So, it seems pretty official now that they have selected a start time for the new season. The action is supposed to begin at 4 PM. It seems this was a slight change that came about not long ago because of something that will happen during this season. No details on what, though. They’ve had a lot of different start times on this show and I think this should be pretty interesting starting so late in the day, although it seems like it would make the whole 24-hour thing a bit more of a stretch than it usually is. With the exception of season 1 (12 AM) and Season 3 (1 PM), each season has started very early in the morning, so you can assume everyone is fully rested when the crisis hits and they begin their 24-hour marathons. This time, Jack and company should technically be close to ended their day by the time it really even gets started.

So what do you all think about this? Do you like the season starting at 4 or would you rather they stick to early morning starts? Do you not care what time it starts? Share your thoughts below and let’s chat! Take care and I’ll see y’all again on Monday. In the meantime, here is a video by kingsag for you to enjoy:

Movie Alerts…

by

Hey, everyone!! So are you looking to see some of the 24 actors in other roles? Maybe on the big screen? You have a chance right now. Our very own Agent Pierce is playing General Morshower in the sequel to the 2007 Transformers movie. He’s the head of a group that is devoted to fighting the Decepticons. As an added bonus, General Juma (Tony Todd) is featured in the movie as well. He provides the voice of The Fallen, one of the main bad guys in the movie. Not too bad, huh? The movie also stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel. If you see it, be sure to come back and post your thoughts on the movie. I’m curious to read them.

Now, for something a little bit farther in the future and kind of related. Steven Spielberg, one of the forces behind the Transformers movie has also teamed up with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman to produce what is being called a sequel to the film Band of Brothers. It’s called The Pacific and focuses on the Marine Corps role in the Pacific during World War 2. You’ll be seeing a pretty familiar face in it when it premieres in 2010 on the cabel channel HBO. James Badge Dale is in it! He plays Private First Class Robert Leckie. You’ll probably remember him as Chase Edmunds, the CTU field agent Kim was involved with back in Season 3. The relationship ended offscreen later on. Not surprising, since Kim’s dad had to maim him to stop a terrorist threat…. Even thought it doesn’t premiere for close to a year, HBO is already airing promos for the movie. As soon as a full release date is given, I’ll let you know.

Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all next time. I leave you with two promos. One is for the Pacific, posted by kinsei1560:

The last one is for the Transformers movie, posted bymoviestvspot. Enjoy!:

Baby News!

by

Hey everyone! How’s it going? I’ve got the day off from the day job today and have been browsing the internet a bit to see what’s up with some of the current and former cast of 24. During my search, I came across a little news about DB Woodside. If you have been a long time viewer or read my Hail to the Chiefs posts, than you’re well aware of who he is and how he played President Wayne Palmer.

Today, I read some really cool news about him. It turns out that he and his girlfriend are expecting their first child. For those who don’t know, his girlfriend is Golden Brooks. She’s an actress that appeared on the UPN sitcom Girlfriends as Maya Denise Wilkes, a housewife and writer. The show ran from 2000-2008 on UPN before moving to the CW after demise of UPN and the WB. In addition to this, she has two movies that are listed as being in post-production. They are Polish Bar and My Place in the Horror. Sounds pretty interesting to me. I’ll let you know if I hear anymore about these.

Congrats to the couple and here’s hoping for a healthy, happy baby. According to reports, the child is due in September. Well, I guess that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow with more news and other stuff. For now,I’m going to leave you with a quick clip of Golden from her stint on the series Girlfriends. Thanks to macohhellyes for posting it!

More Casting News

Add another one to the cast listing for 24!! Remember when I told you about Katee Sackhoff joining the show as an analyst? Well, there is another new character showing up this year who is going to be connected to her in some way (not saying what right now as I wanna avoid getting too spoilery for once) and they have someone to play him! His name is Clayne Crawford and he’‘ be joining the show on a recurring basis. Never heard of him? Neither have I!! Don’t worry, though. I did a little reading and here’s the scoop for anyone who doesn’t know of him:

He was born in 1978 in Clay, Alabama according to his Wiki page, although it (and his IMDB one) don’t give much more info than that. His IMDB one, however, is a wealth of acting credits for him. It seems his earliest role was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He played Rodney Munson is Season 1’s Inca Mummy Girl (a good episode, by the way…). I’m surprised to see he was in another favorite of mine, Roswell (don’t judge me!! I only liked the first season and part of the 2nd). I can see why I don’t remember him from that show, though. He is credited with two episodes and both are in season 3, something I refused to watch after season 2’s finale. For anyone who’d like to check em out, the episodes were Panacea and Behind the Music. He’s also credited with parts on CSI Miami, Cold Case and Jericho.

Get ready to see a lot of him this year, because not only is he going to be on 24, he has 4 movies in post-production and a fifth that’s listed as completed. More to come on those parts later. I’ll also let you know when trailers and release dates come out. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see you tomorrow! I leave you with an interview with him posted by Dugless57. Enjoy!

Jack Gets Ranked

by

Hello, everyone!! So, after fighting my car for awhile, I finally went for it and used some of the money I’d been saving for a situation like this and got a (new to me) car. Unfortunately, that meant most of the day was taken up by all kinds of other tasks and I didn’t even get on my computer at all. Sorry about that! It was just something that had to get taken care of. Anyway, here I am to give you some more 24 scoop I learned from TV Guide. (Don’t worry- this time there are no spoilers involved!)

Remember when I made some posts about the shocking moments 24 has had and I included season 1’s finale and the death of Teri? Seems that someone out there agrees! TV Guide just posted a feature about the 100 best TV episodes of all time. Where does this episode rank on the list? They consider it #10. Not too bad, huh? I love the little blurb about it too, where Surnow talks about how the cast wasn’t happy about this and he had to fight FOX for weeks over the story. Good for him for sticking to his instincts and refusing to back down.

Wanna know what else was on the list? Just follow the links below to read all about it. So now I wanna know what you think. Should this episode have been listed higher? Is there another episode you would have picked instead? You know what to do! Take care and I’ll see ya next time. I leave you with a season 1 promo posted by Hendrix47

Hail to the Chiefs (Part 6)

by

cherryWell, here it is: the final installment of Hail to the Chiefs. I know I already talked about Taylor quite a bit during the season, so I won’t spent too much time on her. I will say, though, that I think Alison Taylor is one of my favorites and is, to me, the most interesting President on the show since Palmer. They actually have quite a few similarities between them, one being their shared desire to get things out in the open and go the honest route, rather than try and cover-up every scandal that comes along. She seemed to really grow into role as the season went on and I’m curious to see how she has evolved since the events of Day 7.

As for the actress… what can I say? Cherry Jones is great and she’s busy. According to IMDB, she won’t just be seen on 24. She’s also in a movie called Mother and Child, playing a character named Sister Joanne. The movie follows two different stories about adoption. One is a woman who gave her child up decades before. The other is an African-American woman who is trying to adopt. Their stories are supposed to overlap. Should be cool. There’s quite a few familiar names on the cast list as well. Naomi Watts, Marc Blucas, Jimmy Smits, Tatyana Ali and Samuel L. Jackson are credited as having parts. I’ll let you know when more information and a release date comes out. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see ya next time!
