Hey everyone!! Today, I wanna talk about one of my favorite 24 Presidents ever: David Palmer. He was the first person to hold the office on the show and I can’t help but have a soft spot for him. For those of you who tuned in late, season 1 was all about him running for the Presidency while being targeted by terrorists who were angry over a military mission he was a big part of.
One of the things I liked best about him was the fact that he was always so straight-forward and was not one to try and sweep scandals under the rug. He wanted to get any stories out first on his terms, which I think earned him a lot of good will in 24-land. While he decided not to run for a second term at the end of season 3, he was part of the show for a little bit after that. He helped President Logan out during the crisis in Season 4. He was killed in season 5 in order to keep him quiet about certain things he had found out during his time working with the Logan administration.
While he hasn’t been on the series in a few years, Dennis Haysbert has kept pretty busy. He spent several seasons as the lead character on The Unit and does a lot of commercials for AllState insurance company. The biggest thing going on with him now is he’s started his own production company and will be producing a documentary under it. Cool, huh? As I learn more about it, I’ll fill you in. You can also hear him if you watch the History Channel. He’s done some narration work for them. Well, that’s about it for now. See ya next time!!
Hello, everyone! I have the last couple ‘Hail to the Chiefs’ coming this week, but first I thought I would take the time to fill you in on where some of the new cast members can be seen on TV over the next week or so. For anyone who hasn’t really seen anything they’re in, it’ll be a nice introduction to them and their acting skills. Let’s start with one of the more surprising additions: Freddie Prinze, Jr.
He’s the son of the late sitcom star Freddie Prinze and can be seen in a few movies soon. One of these is the movie Down to You. It airs on Lifetime movie network tomorrow at 8 PM and the 17th at 12 Am and 12 PM. Nick is also going to be airing a guest appearance on the old sitcom Family Matters (Yes, that Urkle show!) It airs on June 22 at 5 AM and on the 23rd at 12 AM. Finally, you can watch him in Head Over Heels. That airs on USA at 2 AM on the 24th.
Next (and last for today) is Katee Sackhoff. She’s most famous for her roles in Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman, but there’s another appearance getting some airtime soon. You can see her in the series Nip/Tuck on FX June 21st. The show airs at 12 AM and 1 AM. Funny, considering those 24-hour marathon FX used to air of 24. I wonder whatever happened to those…
Anyway… that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see you all again tomorrow! In the meantime, here are some youtube clips for ya:
Hello, everyone!! Well, I mentioned this before but I figured this may be a good time to remind y’all that TV signals are going out today (6/12). If you don’t have a digital cable/satellite service subscription or a convertor box, you are about to be out of luck. Not to worry, though- there are plenty of stores that sell these boxes that will allow your TV to receive the new digital signals. Radio Shack is one of those.
So why are they doing this? Over the past few years, the government has been putting this in motion to free up the old analog TV signals for other purposes. Police and other important emergency communications. The switch was supposed to happen all the way back in February, but it was delayed to allow a little more time to prepare. Surprisingly, according to a yahoo news article, those of us from the younger generation are less prepared than older viewers. The commerce secretary is saying it’s likely because the younger generation doesn’t care much about TV because they’re getting a lot of their shows on the internet or by other means. Makes sense, I guess. So now I’m curious…. how many of you out there are already prepared for this switch? When did you prepare? If not, is it because you watch most of your shows online or is there another reason? Comment and let me know! I guess that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again on Monday. Have a great weekend and good luck if you’re still getting ready for the switch. I leave you with a quick youtube video about getting ready for the switch thanks to IowaPublicTelevision:
Hey, guys! So, I was browsing through youtube and came across something kind of cool with Kiefer Sutherland. Now, I know the guy has his issues and does stupid things sometimes. In fact, similar antics by others turn me off the person entirely. So why do I still have the Kiefer love? One is because of the way he speaks about 24 and his career. He always comes across as humble and grateful about it all. And then? There’s stuff like this…
Having trouble seeing the video? No problem! I’ll give you the scoop. There’s a indie film thing called the1secondfilm that’s based around the idea that sometimes the best or most important parts of your life can happen in a second and they make a film about these different moments. One day, they ran into Kiefer at a bar and got to talking to him. Before they knew it, Kiefer was writing them out a check for $600.23 (yes, I know. That .23 is kinda random huh?) In exchange, they made him on of their producers. He also gave them stuff to auction off that will raise them another $500.
So what was Kiefer’s one second? According to him, it either his first or will be his last. The first because of all the wonderful things that have come and the last because he hopes to go with a smile on his face, remembering all the good things. If you can see the video, watch for yourself and enjoy and check out their other stuff. It’s pretty cool.
So what’s your best second? Comme and let me know and I’ll see ya next time.
Hey, everyone! How’s it going? I’m back to talk a little bit more about the men who have played the Commander-in-Chief on 24. Today, I’m going to talk about one of the more infamous Presidents in the show’s history: Charles Logan. Yes, the traitor!
He seemed like an ok guy at first. A bit wimpy and indecisive at times, but overall pretty harmless. Little did we know that he was involved in one way or another in basically everything the terrorists did that year. This includes the assassination of former President Palmer. (I’m still annoyed over that one. I liked him! Anyway…) He tries over and over to foil Jack’s discovery of his wrong doings, but he fails miserably. After all, this is Jack Bauer he’s dealing with. Not to mention the awesome Martha Logan, who does her part to bust him. He tries to get her committed for her already existing mental issues, but she still wins. All we know about them today is that Charles is still under House Arrest somewhere and something happened with Martha that Aaron Pierce didn’t wanna talk about in season 7.
As for the man behind Logan… he’s been keeping himself pretty busy. Gregory Itzin voiced the character of Dick Tracey on the series Robot Chicken (if you haven’t seen this yet… do it now. Seriously.. It’s awesome!), Guested on Hannah Montana and appeared on several episodes of The Mentalist. He has also completed work, according to IMDB, on two films: The Job and Autopilot. I’ll let you know what’s up with those as more details are released. So, that’s about it for now. I’m going to leave you with a clip, courtesy of lukierosie, discussing some of the best 24 moments. Enjoy!
Hello, everyone!!! I’m back to offer another edition of ‘Hail to the Chiefs’, where I look at the men (and women) who have played the Commander-in-Chief on our favorite show. This time, I’m going to talk about one of the more recent ones: Noah Daniels. He was President during for some of season 6 and was originally Vice-President to Wayne Palmer. He became President after Palmer was incapacitated in that infamous attack while he was giving a speech. He must not have been a very impressive leader, because he gets booted out of office in the next election, losing to Alison Taylor. His biggest role that year, really, was reversing a couple of Wayne Palmer’s orders that almost lead to CTU failing to stop the terrorists that year.
Daniels was played by Powers Booth, whose daughter is also an actress. He first won big raves in the industry after playing cult leader Jim Jones in a movie. He even got an Emmy for the part. Since he handed over the reigns to Taylor in 24: Redemption, he has starred in Turok as Roland Kane and is said to be playing a role in Sin City 2. It’s rumored to be coming out in 2011. I’ll keep you posted on that one. So, what do you all think of Noah Daniels/Powers Booth? Be sure to share your thoughts so we can talk about it! I’ll leave you today with a clip of Powers alongside fellow 24 cast member Sean Astin in the movie The Final Season, posted by Homerunbandit.
Hey, everyone! Hope y’all had a great weekend and your ready for more 24 talk. I know I am! The start off the week, I have some more casting news to share. As always, if you’re very spoiler sensitive, you may wanna avoid the rest of this post. Read the rest of this entry »
Hi, again!! Today, I’m gonna put a spotlight on John Keeler. We first saw him back in season 3, when he was scheming to win the Presidency from David Palmer before Palmer decided to drop out of the race. He seemed to follow in Wayne Palmer’s footsteps, getting taken out of the picture after Air Force One is shot down. To this day, I believe he is still in the coma that incident put him in.
Geoff Pierson, the actor who played him, is better known to me as the crazy used-car salesman dad on Unhappily Ever After. Anyone remember that show? It aired on the WB for 4 and a half years before it was cancelled. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, it was a Married… with Children knock off that was actually created by one of the same people behind the FOX show. He played Jack Malloy, a used-car salesman with a genius daughter, a kelly bundy-type son, another son that was more put-together than any of them and a wife that had kicked him out. He spent a lot of the series hanging out in the basement of his home after he was allowed back talking to a stuffed rabbit named Mr. Floppy. Here’s a clip, thanks to emperorblade:
So where is he now? He plays Captain Tom Matthews on Dexter and was in the film Changeling. If you’re in Pasadena area, you can catch him at the Pasadena Playhouse in California playing Horace Giddens in “The Little Foxes”. His run goes until June 28th. If you get a chance to see if, I’d love for you to report back what you saw. I’ll even make your experience a featured post. Well, that’s all for now. Take care and see ya Monday!! Have a great weekend.
Hello, everyone!!! I wanna take a small break from the president’s posts to share a little something with you today. If you’re spoiler-free you may wanna head elsewhere to stay that way. I’ll see ya with other stuff next time! For the rest of you…. read on. Read the rest of this entry »
Hey, guys! I thought I’d take some time this week to talk about the actors who have played the Commander-in-Chief on 24 over the years and what they’re up to now. Since he’s listed as being in at least one episode of a new series, I’m going to start with the man who went from Presidential sibling to President: Wayne Palmer. Wayne wasn’t one of my favorite Presidents on the show, but he did a pretty decent job. I just wish they would follow up on what happened to him. I don’t remember them ever discussing this. Anyone else? As far as I can see, Wayne is still in his coma. He actually reminds me a little of Taylor, as I didn’t think he was a very strong character at first, but got better as his season continued. Who can forget him resorting to blackmail to make his VP resign and quit trying to undermine him?
I also remember him from his days on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Temptations movie. These days, he’s keeping pretty busy. According to his IMDB page, he has one movie that was released this year (Mississippi Damned), one in post-production (My Place in the Horror) and he has guest starred on Lie to Me and Numb3rs. His latest role is in at least one episode of the new TNT series Hawthorne. It’s a medical drama with Jada Pinkett-Smith. If you’re curious to check it out, he’s supposed to be in episode airing on June 16th at 9 PM. It airs again at 11. Whether this is a one-shot guest role or a recurring part, I can’t say. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see ya next time! In the meantime, here’s a clip of the Temptations movie, thanks to lilstranger06:
Hey everyone!! How’s it going? I have something kinda cute for ya today that I found after doing a search for news on the show. Now, people have said a lot of things about 24. They’ve called it a right-winger’s dream, a horrible influence on our military (not to mention being bad for kids) and even an escapist fantasy. Here’s one thing I’ve never really heard anyone use to describe the show: it’s good for strengthening the family.
Don’t believe me? Well, check out this article written by Joanne Shuttleworth. She talks about how she got into the series and what effect it has had on her family and a little bit about the drinking game she and they played while watching season 7 (All the classic ones are there. Except for CP Device. What gives?) My favorite part of the whole article, though, is when she starts talking about the character of Jack Bauer and all the wonderful facts she’s learned about him. It kind of reminds me of the school house. I got a real laugh out of these. If you’ve read the article and Jack facts, my favorites are numbers 1, 3, 4 and 6. How about you? Do you have any similar ones you would add? Comment and let me know about it!
Well, I guess I better get going now. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you come back tomorrow for more 24 chat. I’ll have a little more casting news to talk about…. with filming started, we’re sure to be in for more. Not to mention spoilers should be coming out before too long.
Hello everyone!!! I know I’m doing this post really late tonight, but I got drafted for a family thing. Love those last minute plans, don’t you? Actually most of it was pretty nice. Anyway… I wanted to let y’all know about some more casting news that came out today. You know the drill- if you don’t wanna know any details, go no further!
Still with me? Good! Remember when I mentioned that CTU was going to get a new head honcho? His name is Brian Hastings and he’s described as a really sharp guy with some great credentials. I just have one question here: is he going to spend a lot of the ‘day’ fighting Jack on everything or is he going to be a more laid-back kinda boss?
No character is really complete without an actor, though, and 24 has now finally decided who is going to take on the part: Mykelti Willamson. Don’t know him? You’re likely wrong. He was in one of the most famous movies of the past couple of decades: Forrest Gump. He played the character Bubba, a fellow army man who ends up dying in the line of duty. I admit, I didn’t know the guy’s name either! Still, once I saw that credit, I knew exactly who he is and what he looks like. So what do you think about this? Are you like me and think he’s a great choice for the part? Are you not sure about casting choices on this show any more after a certain announcement was made? Comment and let me know! Take care!!
Here’s a clip of him from the movie, by the way, thanks to HaroldChanner:
No spoilers in this post. Just a little head’s up. FOX had their upfront presentation recently (ya know… where the networks all show off what wonderful stuff they have to advertisers so the advertisers will throw money their way). During the presentation, they announced that 24 has an official premiere date.
Season 8 of the show will begin on January 17, 2010 at 9 PM Eastern time (yes, that’s a small change in time. They usually start at 8 PM when there’s two episodes). As always, there will be a two-night, 4 episode premiere. I gotta say, I love FOX for this. I admit I am not the biggest FOX fan (some left over Titus, Married with Children and Futurama bitterness left over. Those shows were treated really badly towards the end of their runs) but here is an area where they get it totally right.
I think it’s great that the recognize this show benefits from a lack of reruns and it’s easier to follow if you don’t have weeks (or months) seperating new episodes all the time. I do wish episodes would get rerun at some point later, but I love an uniterrupted run. What do you guys think? Do you think FOX is right in the 24 scheduling? Are there any other shows you think could benefit from this treatment? Comment and let me know! In the meantime, have a great weekend and I’ll see y’all again Monday for another week of news, reviews and other stuff. I leave you with a spoof of 24 that was posted by jonjivan. It’s called ‘240′:
WARNING…. this post will contain some casting details/character descriptions for the new season of 24, which is filming now. If you don’t want to know, you know the drill! Hope to see ya back tomorrow! For the rest of you… follow me to the cut: Read the rest of this entry »
Hey everyone! I’m back and I come bearing the answer to yesterday’s question (which I see has no answer in the comments to the last post yet…). So why is it a coincidence that Geraint Wyn Davies is in the cast of MacBeth with Colm Feore? It’s because Jon Cassar, a producer/director of 24 was also part of the Forever Knight team back in the day. In honor of the fact this was Jon’s last season with the show, ifmagazine did an interview with him that you can read here.
Jon talks about filming this past season and what effect the strike had on production. According to him, so much time had gone by, watching the early episodes was kind of odd. Like you were watching something you hadn’t taken part in at all. I can definitely see that. There was, after all over a full year between those episodes and when they actually aired on television. I pity the continuity person on that show! He also talks about what it’s like when you have to kill a character and what his hardest one was.
The fun part, for me, was the Forever Knight talk. It was the first time he had ever directed anything apparently. He also discusses the similarities he sees between Jack and Nick and trying to get a writer’s vision done on a cheap budget. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll be back tomorrow with some casting updates. See ya then! For now, enjoy this clip of the show that started Jon’s career thanks to britneyandjustinfan:
