24 is the Torture Daddy
This is now just becoming ridiculous. Apparently Kiefer Sutherland will be speaking at West Point Military Academy to tell them that the way Jack Bauer does things, isn’t the way that the US Army should do things.
There are so many things wrong with this story I don’t know where to begin.
Ever since this season started it’s been one rock after another hurled at 24 and FOX because of the torture and right-wing craziness that is supposedly shown on 24. But, now it’s just getting a tad bit crazy even for my tastes.
First off, are the military’s top recruits really thinking of torturing suspects like Jack Bauer does? And if they are why in the world are they at West Point, supposedly home to the best and brightest the military has to offer? And are they so set on shooting suspects in the legs that they really need Kiefer to come out and give them a stern talking to? What’s that going to do anyway?
I mean isn’t this the same as a bunch of ER doctors taking their medical knowledge from Grey’s Anatomy? Or a bunch of incarcerated convicts thinking they could escape prison like the escapees in Prison Break?
Secondly, because 24 is an hour long show about terrorism, and because it’s made by Hollywood we’ve got to have quick resolutions, and not drawn out interrogations. Real interrogations could take weeks or months, but 24 doesn’t have the luxury of doing that. It needs to be one bullet to a terrorists leg and that’s it. The show needs to move forward at a fast enough pace to keep up with its real-time format.
Finally, man it’s just a TV show. It’s called dramatic license, and Hollywood has been using it since its birth.

Deluca and the Burden. The documentary was filmed while the band went on tour in Europe, with Kiefer following them around doing whatever he could do to get them noticed.
