Last week was a build up episode to what we’ve all been waiting for. Tonight’s two hour season finale.
I thought last week was a fairly strong episode, with enough “Jack-tion” to keep me entertained. I was irritated that Cheng escaped Jack’s grasp once again, but I have a feeling that the Cheng era will come to an end in these last two episodes.
The situation in Washington worsened when President Suvarov was actually spying on his own spy which totally caught VP Powers Boothe by surprise. If Jack doesn’t act fast, the US will be headed for war.
Phillip Bauer, the World’s Worst Mullet, has been pulling the strings all along, and now he’s attempting to blackmail the VP into getting his grandson. What kind of insane grandpa does something like that? I sure hope we get some sort of explanation as to why Phillip Bauer is so completely off his rocker.
There is one thing that I’m not too sure about, and if done wrong will really ruin this season finale for me. Last week we were introduced to yet another District Head that has been sent in to run CTU, because of it’s huge “security breaches” like having access to the government building via the public sewer. In past seasons of 24, the District Bureaucrats have come into CTU roughly mid-season where they did their damage and then left. What I’m worried about is the majority of these last two hours being devoted to this new District Bone Head saying things like “Arrest Jack Bauer,” and doing just about everything in their power to totally screw up anything good that has happened. I know it’s going to happen, but hopefully a lot of time isn’t devoted to it, that’s all I’m saying.
Okay, now let’s take a look at tonight’s preview and discuss it after the jump…
After watching that I sure have a few questions:
What is Bill Buchanan going to be able to do to help the situation if he’s no longer part of the CTU team?
Why is Jack suddenly on what appears to be some type of oil rig/platform in the ocean?
What is wrong with Chloe? Is she experiencing a sudden guilt/anxiety attack for treating Morris the way she did?
And what in the world is up with Cheng’s face?
I really don’t have much to say about the preview. It’s intentionally one of those previews that shows you just enough, yet doesn’t show you anything at all. It’s going to be 2 hours long tonight, so a 30 second preview doesn’t begin to cover it.
Also, there was no mention of a “shocking surprise ending,” which they usually announce in shows like this. Especially with the possibility of a very well known (thought dead) character is going to return at the very end. I would’ve expected some sort of hint about that. Like the deep voice guy saying “And you won’t guess who returns at the end to help Jack…” Something along those lines anyway.
Well, I’m excited for the finale. If there’s one thing 24 knows how to do well, it’s going out with a bang. And by the looks of that preview, fighter jets blowing up an oil rig is quite a huge bang I would say.
I did want to mention that the Simpsons last night was hilarious. If any of you missed it you missed out on a great parody of 24. It even featured the voice of Kiefer as Jack Bauer. It was complete with countdown clock, split screens, and alternate camera angles. If you get a chance to watch it some other time I highly suggest you do.

Aaron I was meaning to ask who do you think will be the suprise character to make a comeback tonight?

I think Jack trades Josh for the component. Farmer Hoggett gets away with the boy. Next season, Jack-attack in China, baby!

I have to agree with you, Aaron…The Simpsons last night was hilarious. I loved the fact Kiefer voiced Jack…and Mary voiced Chloe (yes, that was her that he was talking to in CTU, he calls her by name). The only disappointment was the fact that the promos made it look like the whole hour was going to be a 24 spoof, and not just a single episode. Oh well, can’t get everything you wish for, can you? haha
Oh, and Ross B…just about all of us think the surprise character is our dear friend Tony Almeida.

Tony? How would that be possible? I’m trying to remember the particulars of Tony’s demise. He and Michelle got blown up outside their house. They were brought to CTU. Tony tries to get revenge… against… whom, again? And then he gets knifed or something, and croaks on the floor of CTU Medical? So, maybe Bill Buchanan faked his death like he did with Jack?

It was Christopher Henderson he was stabbed with some kind of chemical (Tony was going to stab Henderson but had a change of heart).
Tony is more likely than most, Its possible he was in a coma but survived Jack Didnt know because at the end of season 5 he is kidnapped by the Chinese (I mean no-one told Jack about Audrey so Tony may be alive but everyone knows except from the viewers and Jack).
All we know is that someone is coming back who the viewers think is dead and looking for vengeance.
David Palmer - If he is alive it kind of defeats the point of season 5 (dead rating 9/10)
Nina Myers - Why would Jack get in the car with her also Jack shot her a few times (dead rating 9/10)
George Mason - Poisoned by a radioactive substance and flew a plane with a nuke on a suicide mission (dead rating 10000000/10)
Ryan Chapelle - Again shot in the head by Jack almost as dead as Chapelle
Edgar - VX nerve gas nasty stuff he ain’t coming back
The 3 characters Ive heard most about coming back is Tony (YEAH!!!), Henderson (He was Jacks Mentor but Im sure Jack finished him off) and Chase who isnt even dead but a few people have been talking about him.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
George Mason

Ross B.
To answer your question I think it’ll be Tony, but they better dang well explain how he’s still alive. Because I remember distinctly the episode after Tony was injected by Christopher Henderson, they showed someone covering Tony’s body with a sheet. And Jack stayed in the same room and talked on the phone.

Kind of a weak ending… it would have been a mroe fitting ending for the series finale not a season finale.
I would have preferred this:
Jack stares out into the endless ocean, his eyes conveying a feeling of dread with the realization of what kind of man he has become…
SUDDENLY… WHITE BRIGHT FLASH… tree leaves russle in the air, the sky darkens… Jack shields his eyes from the intense brightness.
A black silhouette emerges in the light…
AN OLDER JACK BAUER (either Kiefer in prosthetics or DONALD SUTHERLAND) reaches his hand out…
OLD JACK: “Hey you, I mean me… Hurry, the future is in danger and the only thing that can save the universe is TWO JACK BAUERS!”
JACK: “Dammit! What is this???”
OLD JACK: “I don’t have time to explain! Terrorists are holding time itself hostage…” OLD JACK grabs JACK and pulls him into the swirling white vortex…
OLD JACK: “Chloe… EXECUTE THE TEMPORAL PROTOCOLS! NOW!”
The vortex disappears! TO BE CONTINUED!
