Retro-24: Reviewing Season 1

by

My friend Matt gave me an idea a while ago to review the past seasons of 24.

I own all of them, and my girlfriend hasn’t seen any of them, so we’re going through all of them before season 6 premieres. It’s quite the feat, but we’ll accomplish it.

We’re about halfway through season 1. Jack has saved his family from the evil Gaines. But, the Drazen family has just shown up. Something I love about 24 is that you get about the the half point of the season, and the original problem is already solved, but you still have about 12 more hours of watching to do. The twists and turns keep coming.

Going back pretty far, 24 really is the show that got me hooked onto TV in general. I had never seen the first 3 seasons, because I had been out of the country for a while. Then I came back and the fourth season had just started. I started watching and was instantly hooked.

After the 4th season I went out and bought the first 3 seasons, and watched them all the way through.

I love season 1 though. All except Teri, Jack’s wife. She whines way too much. My favorite thing about season 1 is how much character development we see in Jack. You can really see what kind of character he’s going to be. He’s a force to be reckoned with.

What were your favorite moments of the first season?

I watched the first three seasons in about a week and a half timespan. A buddy turned me onto the show with: “if you buy the first season on DVD and don’t like, I’ll buy it off you for double what you paid.”

So I watched the first couple of episodes and it was over. I watched the first season in two days and ran out to purchase two and three.

Your story is kind of liek mine. I started wit season 3, up until I watched that DVD set I had sworn off TV shows, but 24’s complex story and long arc dragged me back into it .Now I am an addict for serial shows. My DVD rack is flowing with TV shows, and I have to say, TV is much more fulfilling then movies.
