Season Premiere of 24 Leaked to BitTorrent
Yup, that’s the big news today. Someone over in Asia has leaked the season premiere of 24 onto the BitTorrent search engines.
Torrent Freak, is reporting that they not only have the first episode but they could possibly have up to the first 6 ready and waiting.
The question is will this hurt the premiere of the show if it all turns out to be true? Will it cause the 24 ratings to take a nose dive?
IMHO, I don’t think it will have much of an effect at all. The reason why is not too many people know how to actually use BitTorrents or for that matter know that they exist. The people doing the downloads are people that are for lack of better words “computer geeks.” Now, don’t get mad. I myself know how to use BitTorrents and know how they work. When you know how to work them they are pretty easy to figure out. But, most people are just too busy to take the time to find out.
Usually only thousands of people end up downloading a Torrent at any given time, not millions. So, I just don’t see it making that big of an impact. Plus to think that the people doing the actual downloading are in Nielsen households is even harder to stomach. They know how much their watching a certain TV counts, and if they are fans of 24 I doubt that they will go out of their ways to download it, and screw up the ratings.
Now if BitTorrent didn’t require extra software like uTorrent or Azereus then I think this could have an effect. Say if BitTorrent used something like Limewire, a pretty user friendly peer to peer service, then I think 24 and other shows could be in trouble. But, right now I don’t think there’s anything to worry about at all.
NOTE: In no way am I going to download this leaked premiere, nor link to the actual torrent. It’s going to be interesting to see how FOX deals with this, even if it doesn’t actually effect ratings.

I have no desire to watch these much-anticipated shows on a little screen on my computer when I can watch them in their 42″ HDTV plasma glory. I’ll gladly wait for the official premiere. This show is too good to spoil by being impatient.

DVD’s especially anticipated DVD’s will always end up on the internet at least 2 weeks if not a month before there actual release. This was to be expected. I myself will be watching simply due to the fact that because of my work schedule i will only catch 1/4 of the show on TV and i download from torrents for various shows anyways. But with 5 seasons so far i will be buying the DVD sets to show my support the day they are released.

Wow. As i look at it now the first 4 episodes have leaked as i am sure most of you know and probably the first half of the 5th one is about too as well. Now that i have downloaded them i am starting to feel bad about this. I want 24 to do well so i will watch the premier on fox if my schedule allows me to do so. However i see one episode with 2000+ seeders and close to 7000+ leechers and thats just one tracker. I wonder how many actually will download this. It will hurt the ratings…question is how much. I will also show my support by buying the first DVD that comes out on Tuesday…I feel dirty.

I have seen the 1st four episodes and no1 will b dissapointed i myself will watch the premier too , not as shocking as the start to last season but thn we lost palmer
